Fried pork chops with a side of green beans and a slice of bread with apple butter on it. Accompanied by an iced sweet tea.

It’s “sweet”, not “seweet”...

Been on a bit of a steak kick lately.

Sirloins with a red pepper sauce and roasted red potatoes and asparagus.

On Mother's Day, we threw a couple of strip steaks and some potatoes with onions on the grill.

Again not dinner, but made these scones from scratch last weekend. Never tried to make them before, but they were amazing. I used (modified) a recipe from a friend's blog.

You're a regular Julia Child Steve! :D

The fried chicken started an instant "Pavlovian Dog" response for me, and the sausage and Kale soup looks fantastic.

And by the way, my wife would kill you and dismember and dispose of your body for the Caprese salad!

She's not a violent person, but her heart quivers for tomatoes and fresh basil and mozzarella! ;)

Well......

The Caprese  salad was so-so because it is nearly impossible to get decent tomatoes around here unless you grow them yourself. Basil isn't an issue because the supermarkets sell the living plants for about  $3.

Funny you should mention  Julia Child. My spousal unit is from SoCal. Graduated from UC Santa Barbara with bachelor's degree and post graduate degree. Been back there many times. Julia lived there and pretty much acted like a regular person, going out shopping, etc. until she got too old. I remember driving on upper State Street in the early 1990s and stopping for a red light. I made a comment about the tall old man in drag crossing the street in front of us, and through hysterical laughter,  I heard the words, "You dumbarse, that's Julia Child".

You all are making me hungry with those posts.

I love to cook but trips to the grocery are a drag these days.

Lately have looked in the pantry/fridge for ingredients and

googled for recipe ideas by entering the stuff I have.

Day before yesterday was a nice curry chicken

(had most of the fixings including including Cocunut milk that I can't remember

purchasing LOL) .

Today for dinner a Mediterranean pasta salad with tomato, olives, Capers, chopped Mint leaves.

All stuff I had on hand. Not something I would normally have, was great.

Unfortunately will have to hit the grocery store tomorrow,

what kind of meals do you make with what's on hand?

My mother just turned 94 on Friday, we had an interesting

conversation about life during WW2 Rationing. A real eye opener, she never talked about

it before.

Even in all this, it could be a lot worse.

Now, what's for dinner!?

Sausage and cheese meatball thingies. Not exactly sure what to call 'em, but they sure were good. Pretty easy to make, too.

1 lb sausage meat

1 cup baking/biscuit mix (Bisquick)

8 oz shredded cheddar cheese

1/2 tsp garlic powder

Mix it all together, form mixture into balls, bake at 375° for 15 minutes, enjoy.

Amish sausage pie. Got it and a shoofly pie at the local Amish market. Just trying to do anything different these days!
It was edible, but not a culinary delight

Etouffee made with shrimp and alligator andouille sausage.

The only seafood the wife eats is BBQ salmon.  I'm not a big fan of fish but love all the other creatures of the sea.  My wife is a nurse so when her 12's fall on the weekend, time for me to break out the stuff she won't eat.

Tonight we started off with an appetizer of fried pickles.

Pickle spears with Havarti cheese wrapped in egg roll skins and fried, served with Sriracha ranch dip.

Then we had some home breaded popcorn shrimp and a Mediterranean chick pea salad made with roasted bell peppers, sweet brown tomatoes, anchovies, capers and sage.

Not bad for something that I just made up. :P

Buffalo Chicken Legs! Fresh off the grill.

Grocery has been pretty much out of fresh wings lately, so we make our sacrifices!

Actually just like wings but more meat and half the price per pound!

Can you get bone-in thighs?

Probably, but I like wings and legs

Too many tendons in legs for me, I like bone-in thighs for dark meat. My spouse isn't a wing fan, but I like them.

A local Asian market sells boneless leg meat. It's great if you want shredded dark meat for tacos and stuff. Of course, I laugh when I see it.

Boneless Chicken Ranch. I died the first time I saw this. Still brings a smile to my face. The Far Side
