Wickersham Humble Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 I don't know it there is a 'rarity' list, so just guessing: a original-owner Strombecker Scarab 1/24 'sorta' slot car -- battery powered, originally) that I built as a Devin-like sports car back in 1961, now being restored to typical Scarab; as close as I can make it with y olde skills! Hubley Duesenberg SSJ metal kit, unbuilt (poss, disposable now), and several AMT Pontiac early Tempest kits (have a '61 coupe with orig. Buick 215 under restoraton, had a '62 ragtop 4-bbl 4-banger restored, both 1/1) and ?? Wick
1959scudetto Posted November 28, 2024 Posted November 28, 2024 (edited) I have a few obskure/rare kits in my stash: Bandai 1/20 Lamborghini Marzal, Frog 1/24 Lola T70 Spyder, Nakamura 1/24 Abarth 2000 Pininfarina Prototipo, mpc 1/20 McLaren M8B but the rarest of them all is probably the Sentraru 1/24 Ford P68/3L (it is not even listed by Scalemates) = the only of these that I have built recently (see under glass racing cars): Edited November 29, 2024 by 1959scudetto

Shark Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 I remember the first kit I built was a 1968 Barracuda, the MPC annual kit. I wanted another after all those years and found an unbuilt, parts still on the tree example. Paid a lot for it. Won't be built, but that's the only kit in a stash of about 500 that I will say that about.

We know these releases as NZ-AMT down here. I picked it up as a started kit and it has some parts missing. I have been able to get most of everything as I have a couple of incomplete built ups in my parts bins It was part of this catalogue available late 69 through 70 Of those I have built the following Surf-n-Go - two built and smashed now in parts bin and the one under construction 32 Phaeton - 1 in bits and one rebuilt and under glass 27 T Hillbilly Hot Rod - under glass 37 Chev Convert - under glass 56 Ford - rebuilt and under glass 57 Ford - smashed and in parts bin Mod Rod - one built as fendered roadster and one as an updated Ala Kart and at least one in the stash Double drag team - one pirated for parts and one unbuilt in the stash I have bits and pieces of a few more as I have scored a few parts boxes over the years I also have a couple that were built by my brother but they are broken and live in the parts bin Super Stang Grave Yard duo Long Nose Mustang There was later NZAMT release but I will need to dig that info out On 11/7/2024 at 5:40 AM, bill-e-boy said: Bill, I have one of these in my collection. It was built beautifully by my late, great friend Garry Ritchie. Garry was a prominent Kiwi model builder from Omaru, prior to emigrating to Western Australia in the early eighties, I think. Your post about Tonka AMT kits from New Zealand now confirms that I have a genuine Kiwi kit in my collection. You may already know this but your kit shares its chassis with the AMT Surf Woody, recently re-released, so a new one would give you fresh parts to restore your oldies. bill-e-boy Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 H Alan Yup I knew that the Surf Woody is based on the predecessor to the Surf-n-Go - the Horse Hide Hauler. There may be some engine differences as I have some spare parts left over that are not in the instructions. The Surf Woody had dual rear wheels too I believe Typical of AMT to re-release as I am building the kit but rarity is where it is manufactured - and you have one - what a hoot Bill
