I'd be hugely impressed if the Styline parts came back too.

It might be like the 50 Ford where 1/2 the Styline parts returned. I looked at the Round2 picture and it appears to be a 1970-1972 issue kit.  The styline parts disappeared in the late 60s I believe. No sure if the chrome axles are going to be there or not too. The original kit gave the option of running a straight metal axle or steerable wheels in the front. It will be interesting to see.

I thought the one I bought in the early 70's still came with the custom pieces. In I think every AMT '57 Ford I've ever purchased still had the custom parts in the kit.

Recent issues of the '50 Ford have a lot more than half of the Stylizing parts.  Only a few are missing: skirts, fins, a rear bumper piece, and the Victoria roof.  The Carson top was altered to create the half-top that has been in the kit since the second issue.  The Round 2 issue had the drag version parts that, until now, were only in the second issue.

DO you mean Custom parts or STYLINE parts?

The Styline parts all disappeared with the Flashback issue. More of the custom parts went away during the 1993 refresh where they added the modern bucket seats, billet engine dress up parts and Budnik wheels.

That said, I'll bet there are more than a couple of the old custom and Styline parts cavities still available to run. I'm also thinking whatever was done in 1993 can be undone by moving/swapping some inserts. But don't hold me to that. Some of those parts I am sure are gone for good, but this issue should be an interesting one.

That's a good point about Custom Parts or Styline parts.

Then their is a difference between Styline and Advanced Custom parts and maybe Grand Slam parts..

To muddy the water some more, Styline kits bring up Styling and designing so

some of the parts are Styling or restyling parts

The '57 ford could be a real dud for customizers and just be Stock and Drag version..

You're welcome!

What's needed next is a 'What's in the box?' report.

Pictures of all the parts trees and all sides of the box.

Thanks!

Ace Norton has the right of it. I'll bet he is about 100% correct on the contents, of the kit.

I only hope that Round2 ditches the 1980's wheels and restores the rims that were in the kit originally. I don't know that there is much else that could be put back into the kit. I'm in for One, at least.

.....well, lets just hope this issue has something for all tastes and building requirements, as I'm sure it will... just to get one with that box art, perfect chrome, quality decals, and any bonus they throw our way is going to extract the cash from my wallet. I know this kit has been issued many, many times, however some just put the bite into you, and Round2 has chosen this one to do just that. betcha in the end, we're all happy.......now, I have to have another donut and rest before supper......the Ace....:P

I think it will have roll pans and other custom trearments but the add on Styline parts were a short run. Even the 57 TBIrd had them.

Customizing parts were the more basic ones: front/rear pans, skirts, scoops, things like that.  Those were usually designed as glue-on items, though molding some of them in would be desirable.  Sometimes, the bumpers would be designed to overlap where the pan attached to the body, to reduce/eliminate the need for putty.

Stylizing/Advanced Customizing parts were the ones that really had to be molded in to look decent.  Kits with those parts introduced in '61 and '62 were called "Styline" or "Stylizing", starting in '63 they were "Advanced Custom".  The Advanced Custom stuff hung on through '65, though on occasion parts like that would turn up in annual kits after that.

Somebody will do a post with the pictures of parts trees and all six sides of box.

This '57 Ford is a popular kit.

It was the first year of the new body style.

Call me chicken, but I'll wait for the pictures.

Thanks!

Mr. Ellis and Mark

Great info about difference between customizing parts and Advanced Custom parts!

Also about year break between Styline/Stylinizing and Advanced Custom!

In this post somebody said this kit at one time came with metal axle(curbside version)

or detailed suspension, that's rare!

The part about using putty to blend in Advance Customizing parts makes them

different from Custom parts is pretty sharp.

Then you can add your own touches and have a 'Putty Sled'.

Thanks!

The Metal axle option was if you did not want working steering. Not to be Curbside.

I have had Several of this kit. Including one with all the Styline/Advanced Custom parts.

I still have some, and the "Blue" printed instruction sheet

I DO hope some of the 'Lost' parts are returned

Including the Mini 57 Fairlane 500 Trophy top!!!

I only have One of those!!!!

"the baby moons, exhaust pipes, custom steering wheel, and fuel injection tubes were white plastic."

This kit has a fuel injected Y block? i don't care about custom parts, but I'd buy several if it has  even close to accurate fuel injection.

Nope, the injector tubes are set up as they would be on a small-block Chevy.  Y-block guys know the pairs of tubes need to be "clocked" 90 degrees from the way they are on most other engines, to line up with the Y-block's peculiar intake port arrangement.

That's what I thought. If I had any decent fabricating skills, I'd make a Y block FI, but I don't!
One of those "why doesn't anybody make one of those" things.

.....gee, hope the white plastic parts you mention get chromed this time around.....:o.....I wasn't aware of that, never owning any issue of this car prior......that's interesting info, Gary, and thanks for jumping in here on that.......best, the Ace....;)

The last couple of Racing Champions issues of the '57 Ford were a mixed bag.  One had a box that was a copy of the early Eighties AMT/Ertl box, but the parts inside were basically still from the 1993 revised version.  The instructions and decals were from the early Eighties issue, and other than the stock version the parts didn't match up with the instructions.  The original plated tree-and-a-half from the early issues was split up, with things like the rear axle and injector tubes left unplated.  The Round 2 issue will no doubt match up the parts in the box to what is shown on the box.

well, hopefully they will match the parts up as shown, but stranger things have happened. I assumed, for example, that the 69 Cuda released back in the winter would have hemi heads, or better yet, the hemi block as well to accompany the wedge, but as you know Mark, no dice. model companies sometimes surprise us with all the goodies, yet sometimes with none at all...lol......the Ace...

I just happen to have an original AMT 57 Ford kit.  Here is what was included in it.  From what I understand, the box art of the one shown on Round2s website was the LAST version to have all the custom parts in it.  We shall see if Round2 was able to restore it all.

Thanks for bringing back my childhood memories of this kit. I remember the "Styleline" custom parts, and used them on my build in the mid '60's.  I really like '57 Fords, and I have built a few over the years, even though I have never built one as a "Factory Stock" car. Maybe one day I will.

The Flashback version had the addition of an incorrect injector manifold, as Mark correctly states, as well as an equally incorrect set of tube headers that would be more accurate on an FE (390, 427, etc) engine. They also added a set of unplated reversed wheels for the rear. I vaguely remember possibly some traction bars too, but I don't remember for sure. I would like to see Round2 tool up some accurate parts, but I really love to see them restore and or retool the styline parts.
