Rob Hall Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 Guy's ALL 440's and Hemi's came with the Dana Rear ends. The Revell kits were wrong to put 83/4 rears in the Hemi kits. They WEREN'T even an option! This was told to me by a good freind who used to work at the Chrysler plant here in Deeeetroit. The old Chrysler Main if I'm not mistaken, Right where MY plant is now built, Det/Hamtramck Cadillac Ass. Div.! Interesting..I have no idea what the difference between a Dana and a 8 3/4 rear end would be...would they look different in 1/25th scale?

Rob, here's the difference in 1/25th scale. The top photo is the Dana rear in the Revell 69 Charger kit, the gears are loaded in the back behind a cover, bottom photo is the Chrysler 8 3/4 rear, carrier bolts to the front of the rearend like a Ford 9".

Fisher61 Posted September 3, 2008 Author Posted September 3, 2008 When ever I do my factory stock builds, I like to "undercoat" the wheel wells. This is how I do a Mopar B-body. I paint the entire wheel well, and dry brush on the sub frame rail to look like over spray When I paint the front, I leave the shock towers body color, and paint the sides of the front sub frame. Progress as of today, thanks for looking!
1972 Satellite Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I stand corrected! Just talked to Bob, (My buddy from Chrysler) an he used to instal the rears into the cars on the line. He says, All HI-Perf engines came with Danas. Monacos an Newports with 440's came with 8 3/4 rears. If you ordered a B-Body, with a Hi-Perf Engine (440 Commando, Hemi,TnT Magnum, etc.) W 4spd, or TourqueFlite, you AUTOMATICALLY got a Dana, NO exceptions! I have to correct your facts, cause 8 3/4 came with hemi & 440 automatic cars. A36 Performance Axle Package w/ 3.55. I am also pretty sure that the Dana did not come with AC. A32 Axle Package was a Dana option code as was A33 Track Pak & A34 Super Track pak. In short 8 3/4 rear ends where the "norm" for Mopar muscle cars while the Dana was an option. Most of this info came from 1970 Charger registry. The 1970 Hemi's Standard Axle Ratios: …3.54 w/4-spd w/sure grip…3.23 w/auto.
RadRidesByDan Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I can see that you really appreciate the factory stock Mopars....I have seen factory builds and most people tend to forget about the undercarriage and under the hood that the paint was never perfect but lots of overspray where the opening and seams were.. Excellent attention to realistic detailing Bear
Fisher61 Posted September 14, 2008 Author Posted September 14, 2008 I got the body and chassis joined this weekend, I always take my time on this step as I want the body to sit square on the chassis. Thanks for looking, questions or comments always welcome.
Daniel Lynch Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Great job my friend! Excellant work! I like your "undercoating" details, this is add a lot of realism. Daniel
stump Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 (edited) Beautiful beautiful work mate.. I like the way you add the over spray under the fenders....looks very convincing. Overall, this build is shaping up to be a show-stopper....the motor is excellent, the paint...flawless.......detail..........bitchin' !!! Plus, it's all great reference for when I do mine.. Fisher61 Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 Added completed engine bay pics. Thanks for looking!
RodneyBad Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 That is awesome. Engine detail is "off the hook" great.. Chassis, interior is Dang FINE.. Awesome Job. Beautiful.
1972 Satellite Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I am about to fit the body on the chassis, but there is some fit issues. Do you have any pointers for joining the two together. The interior is in the body and the firewall is in as high as it will go. I have about 1/16" to go. Or should I get my clamps. Yours looks beautiful. What wheels are you using?

Make sure the dash is setting down all the way in the slots on the interior side panels. I had to pop mine back out because the passenger side of the dash was up to high and hitting the corner of the windshield. I had to trim the part of the dash that slides down into the door panel, never had that problem on the '69 I built. The radiator support assembly needs to be slipped into place before you bond the chassis and body together also, the fan shroud was placed over the fan and glued on after the radiator support was in place. The best thing you can do is keep test fitting and looking for places you might have interference. As far as the wheels, I'm still undecided.
lizardlust Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 As far as the wheels, I'm still undecided. Dog dish caps & steelies!! Dog dish caps & steelies!!! DOG DISH CAPS & STEELIES!!!! There - now that I've got that outta my system, I gotta say that is one attractive replica. I really like the color combo, and the underhood detailing looks "just right"!! Looking forward to seeing the completed results!!
Jeff Johnston Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Wow I'm having Deja vu LOL. Nice color. I did a very similar 69 a couple years back.

Looking forward to seeing the completed results!! I'm almost done with this build, making a decision on the wheel treatment, so here are some pics with the Magnum 500's , steel with dog dishes, and mags with slicks thrown in just for fun! Voice your opinions, in the end it will be what I want, see if you can influence me one way or the other! I think we all know what lizardlust wants! Thanks for looking!
Spike Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 how bout squad rims with dog dishes? do somethin a lil different, but look factory
LVZ2881 Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I vote for the steelies and poverty caps...
RodneyBad Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Yes Yes and Ya? But I love the looks of Cold Steel and Caps. But it'll look Awesome any way you choose.
diymirage Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 make it a budget build steelies with dog dishes wrapped in slicks
Rob Hall Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I like all the wheel choices... another wheel I've thought about using on a '68/69 Charger is the Kelsey-Hayes 'recall' wheel.
Harold Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I like the mags, but with street tires. The Chargers of this generation look like they were designed around a set of Cragar SS's.
