That thing is sweet man...ive seen a few videos on youtube about these. They also use them on logging rigs to get down the mountains sround the swtich backs. Very cool stuff.

Decided to build an entirely new dolly! Didn’t like the other one.. Have made some progress on the steer car as well. It’s close to being done. Just have to get to work on the tow rig and beam they’ll be hauling!

Here’s the dolly so far. Cross members all in, air tanks mounted, fifth wheel plate mounted as are axles and air bag mounts. Need to make top plates for air bags and drill supply line in each. Run air lines and valves and backing plates and brake bellows then time for paint!!

I'm glad I decided to make a new dolly!! I didn’t like the look of the other one at all!!

This will be built similar to the Boeing Steer Car in the photos below.  I have a few pics of a few different Steer Cars. From what I know of them there is no engine or transmission, just electric to run the lights, heat and air and steering. I’m thinking it may have brakes too but not sure.

If anyone has other photos please let me know. I’d be interested if you do!!

Hi Kerry,

I read it again and yes, they have brakes, but the steer car driver can't brake,  it's the truck in the front who activate the brakes, just like with a trailer.

On the internet search, i found a selling on Ebay of an Callahan Steer car.

This Steer car is already sold, but in the google image, there is a lot of detail pictures, also pictures of the brakes on the front and rear axles.

Just type in google image, Callahan Rear End Steer Car.

Here are some of those pictures.....
