landman Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 (edited) Somewhere along the way I took a '39 Chevy sloper body in trade for something. I had looked for a donor car and the only one I could find that was reasonably priced was the Rod version of the coupe. So tonight I thought I'd start looking at it. It has a blown 427 and red "carpets". Cut off the fenders on the sloper. I will use the kit's And, as you have seen, I have started opening up the windows. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
oldnslow Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Dude , that's rough , hope you can make a silk purse out this sow's ear .

Oldcarfan27 Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Looks like an old "Maddog Models" job. Is it a poured, slush cast molding on the inside? He might have only been a local caster. I just remember his stuff being very crude and rough. Very hard to build into anything worthwhile. If this is like that and you can make it into something good, then I absolutely admire you. Best Wishes!
landman Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 (edited) Actually it isn't that bad. The real proof will be when I try to fit the interior in it. I haven't removed it from the coupe body yet. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
Jantrix Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 (edited) When I saw those interior pics I literally groaned out loud. That looks like a fine candidate for a curbside, IMHO. I will be following your decent into madness with this build. Edited August 30, 2018 by Jantrix
espo Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 That casting looks rougher than a night in jail. My hats of to you if you pull this one off.

He had cool sounding stuff in the ads, but thankfully at the time I was too young to buy it. Dodged that bullet Good luck with this build Pat. I'm confident you can make something cool out of it.
landman Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 (edited) Took the chassis apart. the front axle is broken, put it back together. It has a blown 427. I was thinking of using a fuel injected small block. I have one but it is scheduled for the collection. I also have this unit which appears to be an early version. It is molded in yellow and appears somewhat large, perhaps 1/24? Any one recognize it? Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
Rider Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 One step at a time Pat, this definitely is a challenge. That fire wall is a lump, but nothing a dremel bit can't take care of. Keep it going.
landman Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 (edited) The "carpet"came off but not without a fight. So I've enlisted the purple stuff for assistance. Found some small block Chevy looking parts for the engine. I winder where that was from, the blue heads should give a clue. And yes Lloyd (Rider), it is a challenge. You are looking at roughly 5 hours work here. I used to build an entire model in five hours when I was a kid. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
Rider Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Whoa, but good progress none the less. We all built models in about that time when we were kids. The simple good old days. If the Super Clean doesn't work Easy Off should do the trick.
landman Posted September 1, 2018 Author Posted September 1, 2018 (edited) Took it out to the garage, donned a mask and had at it with the rotary tool. It looks like a fair fit to the fender/floorpan assembly. Remains to see how the interior measures up. Those red valve covers turned out to be yellow. Started fabricating the missing breather. doggie427 Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Good work Pat.The blue heads I think are from the AMT ‘33 Willys and are supposed to represent the Ford SOHC .

landman Posted September 6, 2018 Author Posted September 6, 2018 (edited) A bit of engine work. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
landman Posted September 7, 2018 Author Posted September 7, 2018 (edited) Trying to fill scratches and divots. Added goodies to the FI. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
landman Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) FI unit is complete. I haven't decided whether I will leave the hood sides open (the easiest since I don't have them ) or if I will ask for a tracing from a member who has them. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
landman Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) Dolled up the chassis a bit. Took templates for the windows. After much sanding and filing, the body now falls into place. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
landman Posted September 9, 2018 Author Posted September 9, 2018 (edited) It will be a tight fit. Need to move the engine support crossmember back a bit. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
landman Posted September 10, 2018 Author Posted September 10, 2018 (edited) Took the body and the interior to the garage and went at it with the rotary tool. The blobs behind the firewall interfered with the dash and a thick ridge just below the windows prevented the body to go in fully. Managed to drop it on the cement floor. Luckily I found the windshield pillar. I'll have to make the others. Edited October 28, 2020 by landman
espo Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Bummer about the body. The engine is very impressive looking and I like the chassis.
