The Catalina in under glass has my fire lit to get into a project I parked a couple months ago. I'm turning a Mobius '61 Catalina into a '61 Canadian spec Strato Chief, 4 door. Does anyone know if there is a good kit out there with a good inline 6 and/or sedan roof. I have GM I-6 (out of a '53 Belair I believe) but it is all kinds of wrong and will need huge corrections. This will be a replica of a friends car and the engine is actually a chevy truck engine. 60's Canadian parts bin special.

Also I am yet to come across a sedan roof. I can build one but if there is a kit with this style of roof I think cut n' paste might turn out better.

Any ideas? Some pics of the car. it had a hefty rustoleum paint job on it. Will be original Fawn Beige when complete

There is NOT one listed currently on ebay,  but missing link has a '61 Pontiac with "that" roof line...check with Kevin.

You might want to check out the inline 6 in AMT's '60 Chevy Pickup. I don't know if they would be the same as a Poncho Canadian six, but that would be a good start.

As far the sedan roof, I can't think of any except for MCW's resin and I believe Missing Link did a two door '61 Catalina sedan.

thanks guys. That engine looks much closer to what I need. It is a chevy truck engine that was used in the Can Ponchos, Cool kit too. I'll have to find one and do an engine trade. I'll probably build the roof. The cost of a resin body just to hack up, naw. easy enough to make.

Like Bill said above, the AMT '60 Chevy pickup will have the engine you need. You might have to make a couple small modifications though.

Model Car world DID have a '61 Cat 2dr sedan but it's being redone right now to be compatible with the Moebius kit when they offer it again. You'd just have to rescribe the door lines and move the B-pillar forward a bit for a 4 door.

If you don't want to wait, they have a '62 Cat sedan that will give you the right roof.

One saving grace of that Moebius kit is that the sedan and 'bubbletop' hardtops at least shared the same windshield height, thus the rooflines would be  the same height. GM did some weird things back in those days with interchangeability. Some things would fit other division's cars while other more common things did not.

Steve, that '61 roofline was unique to that model year only. '62's are a bit different and would need some surgery (resin at that) to be correct. ;)

Ah, yes, quite right. I forgot the '62 dosen't have the overhang above the back window.

The AMT '60 Chevy pickup is going to be reissued at the end of 2018, so you can always buy it for the engine, and trade the balance of the kit off, too. I'm sure more than one person here would be happy to take the go kart (which will be included with the pickup) off your hands. :D

That's sweet, the engine is just what I need. and a go kart too, nice! I like that truck and have a 409 out of the 62 belair kit ready to go in it. The Elky roof could be an option. A little tweaking and it could be a good fit. Thanx for the tips guys.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that Sixties Canadian Pontiacs were built on Chevrolet chassis, which in '61 were way different from Pontiac's.  You'll need to pick up a '61 or '62 Chevrolet kit for the chassis.
