Gramps46 Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 This is a bit of a mystery for me. This red plastic Karmann Ghia appears in a picture of my models in 1960 and I have no idea who made it. I lived in a small town with only one variety store in 1960 and of course there were no model magazines and certainly no internet to order something like this so I must have gotten it locally. The decals are from an AMT Trophy Series kit so they are no help. Unfortunately the model is long gone from my collection. Do any of you old timers here recognize what it is or have a clue who might have produced it.
Eshaver Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Revell did a multi piece bodied kit about that time

Motor City Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 I think it was a promo made by Product Miniature Corporation (PMC) out of Wisconsin. I emailed a couple of years ago regarding what tooling they may still have and got no response. I have an Opel Rekord 2-door sedan, and I think they made a Renault Dauphine and a few other European cars in the late 1950s. These models typically have no glass or interior, with generic hubcaps or wheel covers, and blackwall tires.

I do have the 1953 Corvette by PMC and your could be right. 6 minutes ago, Casey said: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Producto-En-Miniatura-PMC-1959-VW-Volkswagen-Karmann-Ghia-para-piezas-o-restaurar-/322840746741?_ul=HN&nma=true&si=TdL1tcmxwBcP8l%2FjiXzKD5svIiw%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Jim and Casey, Thank you very much for the responses and yes I do remember now the tin chassis. It is a PMC then. Mystery solved. Gary Edited September 12, 2018 by Gramps46

Smaller grills with fewer blades; headlights lower in the fender, hence the name; and smaller sqareish taillights. There are more differences, but those are quick identifiers.
