Randy Kern Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 This is the Revell '41 Chevy pickup kit, with the R&M Co. of Md. resin 2 1/2" chopped cab with smoothed & peaked hood. The paint is Dupli-Color Med. Charcoal Metallic, with a red interior. Thanks to Lyle Willits for the wood painting tips. This is my first project attempt, so I should get better through experience. I also added engine wiring, carpeting, skull shift knob, solder dual exhaust with alum. tube tips, craft store find taillights, and '32 ford rolling stock. One of my favorite Chevy truck styles, I wanted it as low and clean as possible. thanks for looking!
MrObsessive Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Now that is a nice truck Randy! I especially like the wood treatment for the bed! BTW, how've you been doing since your mishap?? Hope things are much better now!
Steven Zimmerman Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Sharp, clean build!....I like the small maltese cross under the hood....Steve Zimmerman aka the'Z'man
Daniel Peterson Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 That is gorgeous! I don't like that vintage of Chevy pick-up...normally. The wheels and stance are perfect! I'm totally in favor of your "the less chrome the better" approach! Needless to say, this is featured in the next newsletter!!
Bernard Kron Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Very nice build! So subtle and understated but with so much impact. Love the cool gray paint and the low stance. The choice of wheels are perfect. Nice planking on the bed, too. Many small details add up to a lot, such as the rolled front pan, smoothed hood sides - and even the iron cross in the engine compartment! Does the billet detailing for the six banger come in the kit? B.
Lyle Willits Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 I REALLY like this one. Keep a close eye on it at the September Showdown. You wouldn't want it to,,,uh,,,,disappear. GREAT job on the woodgraining. Looks just like wood to me. Hope you are feeling better and able to get around a little better by now. At least if you have to be laid up, you can get a lot of cool street rod models done.
Raul_Perez Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Another GREAT build, Randy!! Now I know why I haven't heard from you in so long!! Your build is making me reconsider my original plan of replacing the straight six from the kit with some modern V8! How has Chumley been? Otis is doing well. He now has a female Rottweiler puppy named Emma to play with. Later,
cruz Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Glad to see you are active again man, this build is really awesome Randy and the wood trick really came out sweet!!! Love the color and stance too!!!!
ricky12 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 great looking build looks like some thing i would love to go cruising in
outlaw035 Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 grt8 look'n pick'um up truck...randy....not my fav year but u made it look sooooo.....goooood....neal
JayVee Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 This looks terrific! I really like the looks of the wheels from the Deuce kit on this truck. Perfect stance, too. I'm seeing a lot of great pickup trucks on this site these days. I just started one too, and also ended up painting it metallic gray. On this Chevy I think the color works great with the massive chrome grille.
Gregg1LE Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Very smooth paint and a great stance. Nice job !
LVZ2881 Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Randy, thats looks great!!! question: I'd be interested in getting that resin cab for my truck, but the glass is something I havent tackled before, how did you make the glass?
Randy Kern Posted August 11, 2008 Author Posted August 11, 2008 Thanks for the comments guys, much appreciated. James, the resin kit comes with a sheet of clear acetate for the glass, that went in easily, and being thinner it is clearer and more convincing than styrene. The resin kit's parts are typical high quality from Norm. Bernard, the custom engine parts came with the kit. Well Raul, after being laid up from an injury, I have no excuse not to get some projects finished, or you'll come looking for me .
Raul_Perez Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 ...Well Raul, after being laid up from an injury, I have no excuse not to get some projects finished, or you'll come looking for me . Randy, I didn't know that you were injured! I hope that all is well. It's good to see you building, again!! I may have to get one of those cabs from Norm. Later,
Andy Wyatt Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 That is one sweet lookin' truck Randy! I oughta bang myself up so I can stay home and get some models done! Just kidding...hope you're doing better. Can't wait to see the truck in person. Great job on the truck bed and the color is perfect for that truck. I have a couple in the stash...hope they turn out half as nice as yours!
chebbysteve Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 Well, the whole truck looks great. What else can be said?
RodBurNeR Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 MAN that is awesome! great paint, stance, wheels detail! woooohooooo! got me thinking now!
58 Impala Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Beautiful job! You've encouraged me to finish mine. I've got the same kit WIP, mines going to be blue. I also shaved the front bumper. How did you get the front that low? I've been messing with mine for a while, the back is easy to get in the weeds but the front is a different story.
