GaryR Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 (edited) The old Best Indy winners series. Purchased by Aurora, issued ONCE. What happened to the tools? There MUST be a bunch of still unreleased old tools out there, why not run them? AND WHEN WILL REVELL REISSUE THE DOUBLE DRAG KITS? Let's see your missing in action tools! stavanzer Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Not sure where they are. They are simple kits, and would be considered very 'toy-like' these days. Not sure if they would retain any value to the general modeling public. I suspect that the market for 75-90 year old Indy Cars is small. It saddens me to say these things, as I too, would be pleased to have the back. There was a great article in S.A.E. (back when it was SAE) on these kits.
SfanGoch Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 If you haven't been paying attention, Atlantis Toy & Model purchased a load of old Aurora, Revell, Monogram and Renwal molds after Hobbico went bust. These might be part of the horde.
jas1957 Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 Yep, what he said, WAY back 1970s maybe Monogram purchased many of the Aurora tools after they went out of business. Did they get them all ? Were these included ? Questions I have wondered about for 30 years, I know I would love to see them again as originals are regularly selling for $70-$120 a piece. We can only hope & maybe contact Atlantis & express our wishes.
Deuces Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 (edited) Was it Renwal that had the 1/4 scale chassis???? I would love to see that one make a comeback.... Edited October 30, 2018 by Deuces
SfanGoch Posted October 30, 2018 Posted October 30, 2018 As Atlantis releases the kits over time, it might put to rest the "Aurora molds were destroyed in a trainwreck" stories. I have the feeling that there will be a number of "lost" kits that will available once again. It'll be interesting to see if Atlantis obtained the original VTTBOTS Flying Sub Land of the Giants Spindrift, The Frog and Proteus/Voyager molds too.
Scott Colmer Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Hey Joe, Mobius makes the flying sub. They are listed on eBay for a reasonable price.
Chuck Most Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Didn't Monogram immediately scrap a large percentage of the Aurora molds shortly after purchasing them?

GaryR Posted October 31, 2018 Author Posted October 31, 2018 I suspect there are a LOT of things just sitting because they (manufacturers) don't think they will make money. I have to say, model kit makers aren't the greatest at marketing. RC2 and Mobeius excepted
stavanzer Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 Thanks for posting that link Casey. That seems to be THE definitive answer to the "Trainwreck & Lost Tools" questions. (Or at least the best we'll ever get some 40 years later)

Mike999 Posted October 31, 2018 Posted October 31, 2018 This photo shows how simple the Aurora Indy Winners were. This one seems to be missing some parts, only has 3 wire wheels and 2 are broken. It's up on eBay right now, with a Buy It Now price of $10.95 + shipping. If you want to see it, here's the link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1-24-AURORA-MASERATI-SPL-1940-INDIANAPOLIS-500-WINNER-RACE-RACING-CAR/202454014359?hash=item2f23331997:g:qBUAAOSwb-RbppRY
