Progress report- Chassis done. Engine done and in chassis. Interior done. Body primed and acceptable.

The old “one step forward, one step backward” still going on..  after looking at this body 25 years, only yesterday did I question the gas filler door on left quarter panel!  The chassis has a gas tank in trunk with filler cap on top of it! So I filled, sanded and reprimed!

Broke a wheel mount getting the wheels on axles.. drilled and pinned, inserted some round Evergreen for a new mount.  Time stealers!

Still looks like a lot more than four days work to finish. But it’s further along than it’s ever been!

Great job on the Mustang Dave, I'm looking forward to seeing Bad Medicine finished.

As usual I'm leaving it to the last minute to get the Ferrari finished, maybe I should have chosen a subject that I'm more interested in. Before I sprayed the white primer on the body I added the door mirror and glued the headlamp covers closed as the headlamp pods needed a bit of work to get a good fit and they'd probably stay closed anyway. After the white primer it looked like it was ready for its Miami Vice audition. ?

Over the last couple of days the body and other panels have been given a couple of coats of Tamiya Italian Red.

It's not perfect but not far off good enough. I'm not sure if it'll be done by Wednesday night but if I concentrate on it for the remaining few days it won't be far off.

I got the interior parts of the Vette painted Krylon Saddle Tan today, with matte topcoat, and laid the undercoats on the side marker lights (orange front and red rear). Tomorrow they'll get the amber and stoplight red treatment. Got the tire treads sanded, now need to detail the Rally Wheels. Body foilwork still to do.

Looks like i will have to carry over Bumble Bee. Sadly I ran out of supplies and and it will be another few weeks before restock at my LHS.

I am going to have to extend...again. I've got a lot done,  but clearly it's not happening in the next 48 hours,  or so. I would have made it,  if I could leave well enough alone! I will reiterate, this thread has been a great help, to me, in getting projects done. Once I declare something for this thread, it becomes and remains the focus of my efforts.

That is EXACTLY why we're here! Drive on! B)

Meanwhile, got the body foiling done on the '70 Vette (rocker trim, front and rear Corvette flag emblems), painted the flag emblems with red and white, painted the side marker lights TS Amber and SL red, painted the grill parking lights Pearl White, painted the Rally Wheel slots black. Still to do: paint Rally Wheels flat silver, windshield/roof trim chrome, paint grille black, paint interior details black, foil taillights and paint backup lights white. Looking pretty good for Wednesday completion.

That's excellent,  Snake! This thread has led to a TON of completions that might not have been, without it. I think I am on number four. The last four+ years have been the most prolific of my modeling life. I think I have completed seven projects,  in that time!

I just counted 80 by the end of Round 10, and we have 4 more so far this time. Pretty sure we'll hit 100 by the end of this year! B)

Tom, that primer looks pretty clean. If you can get it otherwise buttoned up--glass, interior, trim, and so forth--and fit to show in one piece by the end of the month, we'll give you credit for DONE. You can always go back and lay pretty paint on it later. B)

TIP: White glue and masking tape can be your best friends at a time like this. ;)

Just for the record, I want to post where I am, now. I hadn't intended to scratchbuild the entire suspension! ? I don't think I am too far from being able to cleanup/paint/assemble the chassis and wheels and tires. Then, I can build the engine, an it should pretty much be a drop-in...

Too late!  It’s now red!
I painted it between last night and this morning.  Letting it out gas. I should be able to BMF in the morning.

Just a quick bench shot this morning…. Duplicolor red looks even but needed some shine in some areas so I gave it a squirt of Tamiya Clear.

Got my Vette interior done. Got the grille done. Got the Rally Wheels done. Got the chrome on the A-pillars and drip rails. And then disaster struck: Went to detail the taillight lenses, and could only find 3 of them. I keep all active projects in gallon freezer ziplock bags--it wasn't in there. I don't remember one being missing when I disassembled it, hmmmmm. It might be hiding under something else on the workbench, it might have ended up in the baggie of another project, I dunno. Gonna drive on with assembly and GITTER DONE without the taillights and sort that out later--if it doesn't turn up, I'll have to sili-clone one but that won't happen by tomorrow. Ah shucks oh well.

Keep moving!  It will only show up once you stop looking for it!

Is  the Corvette a screw bottom? Just pop it together without the screws (or glue as the situation dictates) and when the tail light decides to reappear, put it in and seal it up.

In the meantime, get it done! ?

News Bulletin- I checked on Studebaker and clear still feels too new to BMF.   I also noticed an area on the body with poor clear coverage so I just gave everything another squirt!  Opened a new can of Tamiya Clear- fortunately I had three cans in inventory!

The Stude is looking great with some color on it Tom.

The Testarossa had a couple of coats of clear yesterday and today I've been doing detail painting on the body, which has taken some time as the are a lot of grilles and intakes that need to be painted satin black. Nearly there though so if it's not finished by tomorrow night it should only be a day or two late.

I will have to continue to the next round. I’m not having much luck with the paint. It has some peculiarities, that and my little experience with airbrush. Since I have to spray this poison paint in the garage humidity has stimmied progress. (Perfect weather the week I was away?) I have sprayed the desert rose but it had a rough, dry finish. After sanding 2nd coat was just as rough but it’s polishing out ok. Have some burn through to deal with however. ?D1C9070C-4E78-4786-8E86-D2D2757FD042.thumb.jpeg.85c9da3d0e571bb9e6e2911645b25e19.jpeg6A014059-9F24-4A95-A406-6FE77101609A.thumb.jpeg.473efe07f047713a1ce26ebdebc16447.jpegDesert rose ready for final polishing. My '70 Vette is finished! FIFTH COMPLETION! GOTTER DONE! B)

Well, done-ish. Haven't found the fourth taillight so the taillights are still out, but otherwise finished. Hope to have pics up later today or tonight.

For those still shooting for the finish line, remember, you have to declare your project DONE before midnight tonight (June 30), with pics of the finished model posted within 48 hours. ;)

GO! GO! GITTER DONE! B)

As promised. And for once, I remembered to Silver-Sharpie the door handles BEFORE I took completion pics.
