Koellefornia Kid Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Hello everyone, I think the following two pictures are showing a vehicle that might look familiar to most of you: Pete Chapouris´ „The California Kid“ ´33/´34 Fords are my favorite Hot Rods, so I just had to build this one! I used Monogram´s ´33 Ford Street Rod kit with a couple of modifications: AMT ´34 Ford grille and door handles, transplanted louvers for the hood, hood sides and rear panel, headlights and correct 302cui engine (wired) from Revell´s ´32 Ford, resin Halibrand wheels, steering wheel and bucket seats from ThePartsBox, scratch built rear bumper, front nerfbar and license plates. Flame decals and window tags were custom designed after a Fred Cady decal sheet and printed by a decal printing service I found online. The California Kid was a must-have for my ´33/´34 Ford collection: Thanks for looking, comments are welcome
Eric Macleod Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 You sure got this one right. I'm betting that the decals were a real treat to apply.
olschoolkid Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 Really nice. I think the California Kid is an excellent example of a 34 Ford Street Rod.
Snake45 Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Very nice! You captured the feel of the thing. Model on!
Phildaupho Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 You Have done an admirable job of capturing the features of a hot rod that is certainly on my list of the top 10 hot rods of all time [which makes me wonder what would be on the definitive list of the 10 hot rods of all time !!??]
DumpyDan Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Nicely done, that Sedan look real nice too.
Red318 Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Really nice, I remember watching the film years ago, I had never seen anything like that 34
OldTrucker Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 Great to see this one built! One of my favorite movie cars!
Koellefornia Kid Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 (edited) Thanks a lot! On 11. So many cool Rods were build in the past 60 years... hard to a pick top 10. But I have a top 5 that I definitely want to have in my display case somewhere down the road: 1: The above shown California Kid (obviously done) 2: Billy F. Gibbons Eliminator (done) 3: Jim "Jake" Jacobs´yellow ´34 Coupe (will be built as soon as I find some adequate wire wheels) 4: The SoCal Speed Shop ´32 Roadster (Pete Chapouris again. I got a roadster kit in my stash, so someday...) 5: Steve Caballero´s ´30 Model A "Coupe de Cab" (will hopefully be built soon, when the ´48 Caddy and the ´72 Blazer projects, which are currently on my desk are finished) Any additions to the list? Oliver - As soon as I made the comment about the Top 10 Hot Rods, I started to think about my personnel list. This is what I came up with. I am sure many of the cars on my list will be on others as well but maybe not in the top 10. They are all hot rods that definitely have made an impact on me and all closely associated with a particular and influential individual. In no particular order 1 - Pete Chapouris California Kid 34 Ford Coupe 2 - Doan Spencer 32 Roadster 3 - Norm Grabozski Kookie T-bucket 4 - George Barris Ala Kart 5 - Ed Roth Outlaw 6 - Tom McMullen 32 Roadster 7 - John Buttera 27 T Sedan 8 - Chilly Catallo Silver Sapphire Lil Deuce Coupe 9 - Jimmy Shine 34 pick up 10 - Boyd Coddington Smoothster
Dennis Lacy Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Very cool and one of the most iconic hot rods of all time! You should do Jerry Slover's pro-street California Kid II as a companion.

I might add some of them to mine. How could I forget the Ala Kart and the Lil Deuce... 5 hours ago, Dennis Lacy said: Very cool and one of the most iconic hot rods of all time!
