disconovaman
I have but it's that same old crappy tool as the hardtop car. The hood is cool. with a little work it will fit the Revell car.

disconovaman
Hey All, I just wanted to quickly update on what's going on here at the "Looney Bin" I have another trick, tip, improvement or what have you to show on this model kit... It's pretty simple, all you need is flat styrene and a sharpie... The actual car has a seperate dash pad so to give the stock dash a 3D effect I just cut the dash where the pad is and add some flat plastic underneath... It's a nice detail when finished. Have a good day...
Snake45
Great tip! I think with many kits you could accomplish the same thing with a file.

That's actually how I first started doing it, then I discovered there was plenty of room under the dash to stuff the styrene.

First I'll start with my favorite detail I learned to do with this kit... opening the grill to expose the radiator support. This trick can also be used on the RS grill. I use a razor blade to shave the back thin, then I use a toothpick to peck out the slots. A sanding stick or sand paper will clean up any loose shavings. Be careful when you get down to the nitty-gritty because it will be fairly delicate. It usually takes me about an hour, (I've had alot of practice) It may take awhile to get the technique down, just be extra cautious. If you paint the support black and the grill silver this is a very nice detail. If you paint the support a body color, and the grill silver or black, It looks cool that way too. WoW!!!!!..... ☺️

Mr mopar
Do you have a close up of the wheels that you are using ? I wish Monogram would have made the front wheels Spyders like the back are .

Here are the Spyders close up... they are from the newly re-released 79 Trans Am... I like these wheels... The fronts are from the LAPD pro stock camaro. (they're in need of replating) They'll be close enough to the Centerline looking wheels that were on the Monogram kit. I'd like to see Revell make the Tel-stars for some new kit like a street version of the 68 Chevelle. Here are some comparisons to the real wheels and model wheels. I think they're close in likeness. disconovaman
Ok Today was a successful paint day. I got the body prepped... sanded all the mold lines out, and washed. Primered then basecoated it silver and came back with a nice coat of Wimbledon white. I think this color is closest to Monogram Cream. It's off white like the original molds. Decals, clearcoat, and then some polishing are my next steps...
disconovaman
This trick is not just for this kit but when I seen the spot on the firewall to drill for heater hoses It was then with this kit that I realized it could be done. That's why I've choose to add the tip here. Drill out two holes and run one peice of wire (through the holes from the back of the firewall) These hoses are too small for this application, I have a larger size I'll have to find later. You get the idea...? thanks for looking...
mvadrag
i thought some pictures of the two funny car 69 Camaro bodies might help the discussion. First the AMT Funny Hugger: The AMT has huge rounded rear wheel well cutouts. The MPC Dick Harrell: The MPC is much more funny car specific with fiberglass like internal molding and an escape hatch. Great pics, thanks for sharing! I believe your Funny Hugger is an original, not the reissue. On the reissue, the front wheel openings have been moved forward to work with a new (and age-inappropriate) chassis. It front end is still more accurate than Revell's RS front. It looks like the front wheels openings are moved forward on the MPC Harrell Camaro, too. The fiberglass undersides are a nice touch, but the whole body sides still share the gross inaccuracy of the stock MPC '69 Camaro. But your pics give credence to the idea that this was a unique, standalone body, not modified from the stocker. (It looks like it has a "flat" hood, which AFAIK was never offered in any issue of the MPC '69 Camaro stocker. only the SS and/or CI hoods.) Plastic_Passion
I've never built an amt '69. Just the '67 & '68. The '67 I had, had a real pain of a smoke window on the passengers.... I think.... either way one of them was difficult but other than that it went together "ok". Very lackluster in the detail department tho. To be fair the Revell RS grill is tooled that way for the purpose of having two grill options... standard and RS option. To me, the two options grills are better than a more accurate one option grill. You can make the RS grill look pretty good for what it is I think... I'm working on making the Revell RS grille more accurate. Hope to finish it soon and have been taking pictures. It really helps that I have a REAL '69 Camaro RS grille hanging on my garage wall. disconovaman
I'm intrested to see pics of your grill when it's finished Snake... I've been looking at the original directions for color confirmation on the Cream camaro. I see that the interior tub didn't have a back seat. I had engineered a custom back seat to fit the tub. Apon seeing this, it makes me want to switch directions. I dunno... hmmm?

Here's a sneak peak--couple uncropped, unfixed in-progress pics. Basically, you cut the doors away from the grille, then thin the backside of the grille. The real RS grille (chrome part) doesn't protrude NEARLY as much as Revell would have you believe.
