David G. Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 I don't think I've seen this much detail on any other model. There's so much detail that it's difficult to get a sense of scale. David G.
Madhatter Posted May 27, 2023 Author Posted May 27, 2023 LOL, thanks David & Pete. Its not a small kit by any stretch coming in @ 60cm in length. The base will be just over 80cm x 40cm roughly.
gotnitro? Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 absolutely stunning work! The pre-shading panels, then drawing lines around areas really give a dimension to the parts making everything cohesive. 1
Madhatter Posted May 28, 2023 Author Posted May 28, 2023 thank you Jeff I've made yet another amendment to the base and have scrapped the buildings in favour of smaller structures like this: 1

Madhatter Posted May 29, 2023 Author Posted May 29, 2023 (edited) Thanks David I am much happier with the more subdued top plate - and it'll make my life so much easier I have finished building the machinery stuff for the hole section on the right side of the base. It's made up of 2 layers which will be sufficient to give a scale of depth. You won't see much if it but I will be adding some lights under the first floor to make it more visible and for some interest (gotta have more to look at than just the ship right?) This is now all ready for paint which I will do tomorrow night. Ground floor: First floor: together: And with the top plate on: Simple but effective I think. I'll take some more shots once it's all painted etc As always, thanks for stopping by Si Edited May 29, 2023 by Madhatter 1
David G. Posted May 31, 2023 Posted May 31, 2023 Talk about depth! ? Yeah, it definitely will need some lighting. Subtle lighting. David G. 1
Madhatter Posted June 7, 2023 Author Posted June 7, 2023 continuing on with the base, the insert is painted and lit: I have sprayed black underneath since taking that shot to add light blocking. It looks pretty good to me The walls have also been started. You won't see much once the middle layer is added but there is enough to make it interesting: Well, that's it for now but I'll update this again once the bottom layer has been finished. I think I'll need to black base the bottom first before I start on the top layer as it'll be impossible to get in there once the middle deck has been added. The top plate is almost ready for paint too. I still need to add frame work to it which I'll do once the bottom part is done. As always, thanks for stopping in and having a look Si
HJK Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 OMG, David, this absolutely crazy. Every time I think this will be the maximum level of detailing you lift it to the next or even a step higher. Forgive me the word, but this is insane☺️. I for myself am desperately trying to detail my out of the box models just a bit, but the level of detail you are performing on this thing is absolutely stunning. I really, really look forward where this will end. I definitely hope that you will keep on with this level of gorgeous work until the model is finished. Good luck my friend and stay focused. Juergen 1
Madhatter Posted June 10, 2023 Author Posted June 10, 2023 Hey Juergen! Long time no see -- hope you've been well? Thank you for the kind post - its very appreciated It's coming along nicely now. Still need to cast some more parts but this happens pretty quickly See you around soon Simon
HJK Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 Hi Simon, I'm terribly sorry, I addressed you with a wrong name. I read the last post (David) and started writing so I used his name, sorry David. Take care, Juergen 1

He's the genius here. Best Regards, David G. 1
Madhatter Posted June 13, 2023 Author Posted June 13, 2023 thanks guys: ) The bottom layer is now pretty much ready for painting. I just need to add some PE ladders to the frame work and it'll be done. Then to make the top layer which will be pretty much the same as whats on the bottom. I'll add in some lighting too to both layers - just for added interest The next update should see some paint on it! Getting closer to the end - sort of As always, thanks for stopping in and having a look Si
David G. Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 I just keep scrolling back and forth enjoying all the eye candy. David G. 1
gotnitro? Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 Amazing display! I keep looking over the photos trying to pick out items I'd recognize where ya sourced em from..like Easter eggs lol 1
ea0863 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Oh my gosh Simon! I just happened on your post and am AMAZED. You are not building a model, you are doing a masterpiece! Thank you for posting. 1
Madhatter Posted August 8, 2023 Author Posted August 8, 2023 Thanks Emre I have been working on it in the back round but not as much as I want. I'm not far off finishing the base construction so, I should update this with what I have done. I'll try do that later today after work Thank you though for stopping in and having a look
HJK Posted October 24, 2023 Posted October 24, 2023 Hi Simon, how're you doin'? Long time, no see, so I hope you've been well so far. And I certainly hope you're still working on the SD, although it probably asks you for a huge amount of patience, doesn't it? But you have been a tough guy up to now so I look forward that you will muster the strength to finish that monster space ship. If it's of any support for you, I promise I'll keep my fingers crossed. All the best and take care, Juergen 1
Madhatter Posted October 29, 2023 Author Posted October 29, 2023 hey Juergen Thanks for the check up bud. Sorry to say, I haven't touched it for the past month or so as I have been busy with other real life projects plus a couple of car kits I had to finish. I am in the finishing stages of another project I've had going which I will post soon. Once that's done, the plan is to go back to the base and try get that finished and then if I still have reserve mojo, I will keep on going with the fiber installation - a mammoth task to which I have had supply issues to boot. However, just for you, I will add a couple of pics as an update Midsection layers: Thanks again for looking in Juergen (and everyone else too) and I shall see you all again soon Si
David G. Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Thanks for the update Si. It's nice knowing that you're still out there. It will be phenomenal when it's finished. David G. 1
Madhatter Posted October 30, 2023 Author Posted October 30, 2023 thanks David. Yeah mate, I'm still around - just not posting as much these days. I've been doing more building and other things in RL than I have time to spend at my laptop ( a rarity I assure)
Madhatter Posted January 29, 2024 Author Posted January 29, 2024 Dusting this one off yet again. Seeing as I have some making up to do in regards to this thread, here's a couple of the most recent (as of tonight) of where I am up to. I'm over half way done on the left hand side but now that I've added some extra plating on this side, I'll have to do the same on the other side and also the top plate. I have to go careful that I don't extend the shelf too far out or all the detail work will be lost which is why I will be installing SMD's on both levels. Up until 2 nights ago it was looking like this: And now it looks like this: And a couple of close ups. Bear in mind, the detailing is not yet finished as I need to blend the parts in more which I will do over the course of the next couple of weeks Hopefully you can see where I'm going with it. Once it's primed etc, it'll look totally different and much more cohesive Thanks for sticking around! Si
David G. Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 It's great seeing an update on this Si. As it is knowing that you're still around and working on it. I'm still amazed at the length and depth of work and detail you've put into this. By any chance, have you been keeping track of your time investment on this project? I'd be curious to know how many hours you've logged on this build. David G. 1
