jaxenro Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 How bad are these? Are the basics there and are the shapes fairly accurate?
Mike999 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Here's a thread from July 2018 about the PYRO Stevens-Duryea touring car. I like these kits myself, and have quite a few of them in the stash. PYRO did some Brass Era cars not available anywhere else in smaller scales, like Lozier-Briarcliff and Stevens-Duryea.
64Comet404 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 They are pretty nice kits for the era. Good details and some bodies that have never been done by other manufacturers.
Deathgoblin Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 It looks like a nice kit. I might see about digging up a couple of these.
jaxenro Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 Thanks. I have a bid in on a model 30 Cadillac and am looking at the Mercer wish they did the Stutz also. I thought I could convert the model 30 into the speedster
Richard Bartrop Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Here's my Pyro Mercer build. The Vintage Brass kits are actually pretty nice. They put a few 1/25 kits to shame.
Dave Darby Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 I built the Pyro Renault Town Car back when I was around 11 or so. From my memories it was a pretty nice kit. I wonder if Round 2 has the tools for these. I believe Lindberg ended up with the Pyro tools IIRC.
jaxenro Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 The Mercer build looks good I would be happy to come out half that good
Mike999 Posted January 23, 2019 Posted January 23, 2019 Here are some neat conversions to that PYRO 1906 Renault, including a Phaeton and a Grand Prix racer (in pic below). I've also seen it converted into a World War I cargo truck. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/automotion/renault-1-32-models-t1209.html
jaxenro Posted January 23, 2019 Author Posted January 23, 2019 Are they actually 1/32 scale or just sorta scale? I really don’t mind if they are proportional but thinking of mixing in some of those 1/32 WWI airplane engines for a race car post war
64Comet404 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 I haven't measured them in a while, but the Brass series cars seem to be pretty accurate for scale. Apart from the manufacturer, they share little in design traits with the cheaper kits ('37/'52/'57 Chevs and '40/'49 Fords) that keep getting reissued by Lindberg.
peteski Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Many of these Pyros were repopped by Life-Like in IIRC Historic Cars series. They are nice little kits. The show up on eBay often (or did last time I looked for them about 2 years ago).
Richard Bartrop Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Lifelike even did a few that were originally slated to be part of the Vintage Brass series, but never made it.
jaxenro Posted January 25, 2019 Author Posted January 25, 2019 I ended up getting the Cadillac Thirty and a Mercer I will post build threads on them
lordairgtar Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 The earlier the kit, the better. later PYRO releases deleted the actual brass plate and molded the plastic bits in a dull brass color. I have the Mercer, 1910 Buick, Renault. The Buick's engine does not look right to me however.
vairnut Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 The kits in the vintage brass series are really nice. Others kits from their table top series did not have plated parts and had plastic tires so kits like the Alfas and Bentleys are not as nice. The Life Like and Lindberg reissues mostly do not have the plated parts plated. Stick to the old original Pyro issues.
jaxenro Posted February 1, 2019 Author Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) I ended up getting about five of them a few are still en route. Interesting kits some parts like leaf springs have almost no definition and others like fenders almost too much. I am building two now just to see how they work out. One kit the flash is almost anough lkastic for a second kit but the others aren’t bad Edited February 1, 2019 by jaxenro
Richard Bartrop Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 From what I understand the Buick, Lanchester and Hispano-Suiza were never released as Pyro kits, just Life-Like.
