So i saw one of these super rare macks at macungie truck show a few years back and have always thought it was hads down the coolest truck ever built. The mack RS-771L and RL-771L were only built for a few years in the early 70's  and came factory with a 12v71 detroit!!

Should be an interesting project.  What's your plan for the long hood?

Gary wallace sells the extended r700 hood which this truck used, but mack extended the cowl at the factory to make room for the v12. so i will be using the hood from the kit to make the cowl extensions.

Very interesting!! You have my attention. I've seen several R700s with 12v-71 Detroits, but I've never seen the extended cowl like this. Cool Project! Can't wait to see more! Looking forward to seeing Gary's hood as well!

Yeah i just sent out the order today for the engine and hood so im very exited to see them and put the detroit together..ive seen a bunch of 8v71s, 8v92ta's and even a 3408 under the hood of r700's, but that blue truck was the first and only v12 ive seen in a mack. Probably not very popular on the east coast im guessing.

I must have been mistaken about seeing 12v's in R700s. I just did a little research and they were very rare. Again, cool project! I'm looking forward to seeing this one!

Yeah they are a true beast! And yeah let me know that would be cool. When he gets off the road i will be getting a auxilary trans off of him.

Little update. I got my order today from moluminum and i gotta say jamie makes some great looking parts! Will def be going to him again. I got a few sets of each style front wheels since im not sure wether i want wide spokes or the wide aluminum wheels on the front. Will have to see how they look after the cab and hood are mocked up on the frame.

Will be watching this for sure. That is one good looking Mac. What color are you going with for yours?

Its definitely going to be a two tone and frame and chassis will match the lower part of the two tone. Thinking blue and black with blue chassis, blue and a cream/tan with blue chassis, or a orange and cream/tan with orange chassis

Since this truck would have came with a steel dash i picked up a dm 600 interior and trimmed the front to fit the r cab and made a small filler plate to fill the spot that was cut out for the motor when used on the dm. Once the glue dries ill sand it the front edge flat.

Assembled the chassis today..took alot of sanding to get parts to fit right but its finnally together..might stretch the frame a couple inches once i get the engine and hood fitted.

Nice update !  I agree w ya..even a small frame stretch would balance the truck out after looking at the real one .

Are those Jamie's heavy duty front springs ?

The hood and engine came in today from gary! Also got a r cab and dm600 cab courtesy of brian. So i will be assembling the engine soon and will be cutting up some cabs to make the correct short steel dash cab as a member on the mtb forum brought to my attention .
