Mr mopar Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 (edited) Don't forget to fix the rear trunk too it's to flat across the back ,it should have a bit of a point . and on the sides of the body at the back it has a pinch .that has to be fix too ! Edited March 27, 2019 by Mr mopar
Brutalform Posted March 27, 2019 Author Posted March 27, 2019 Scribed the fender to rocker lines. Also put the engine together.
Mr mopar Posted March 27, 2019 Posted March 27, 2019 you have your valve covers on the wrong way ,the filler oil cap should be on the passenger side........... just trying to help you out .

Correct ,,,,but for 1970 and later. which is what the valve cover shown is ( this is 1970-71 style ) 1969 and older have a chrome ( or black in non HP applications ) push on oil fill cap which is on the drivers side
Brutalform Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 (edited) I copied this post to put here. This is where I am at now. Anyone run into this problem before? Edited March 31, 2019 by Brutalform
Brutalform Posted April 25, 2019 Author Posted April 25, 2019 It’s been a few weeks since I’ve been at the bench. Back pain is no fun. But, I painted the Roadrunner with Testors “Go Mango”, which was the closest thing I could find that looks like Vitamin C. There are about four coats of Testors clear on the body. Now just needs some micro polishing. Thanks Bill gtx6970 for supplying a grill. I just set the body and interior floor on the chassis to see how it will look. As soon as the polishing is done, final assembly is the next step. 1
StevenGuthmiller Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 The color looks great! There is just something about this AMT body that looks off to me outside of the aforementioned wheel well and quarter window openings. Could there be a problem with the length of the rear quarter panels in relation to the wheel wells? The dead on side shot almost makes it look like an altered wheel base car. The area behind the wheel looks too long to my eye. Steve

I never let that bother me, I just build them anyway. Now... from what I’ve read on this forum, there is a Charger out there, where the roof and windows were off BIG TIME. I would just avoid that kit altogether, if the issue was that bad. If I’m not mistaken that kit was corrected though. Edited April 25, 2019 by Brutalform

Sometimes certain things just jump out at you. The wheel well openings and quarter window issues are something that I possibly would try to tackle, but the rear fender thing, I wouldn't mess with. Keep up the good work my friend! Steve

Keep up the good work my friend! Steve Thanks. Yes, the rear quarter panel bottom does seem like it’s a long way to the bumper. The more I look at it, AWB does come to mind. I think I might lower the body in the rear just a little. The current stance might be messing with our perception a bit. But even if it was perfectly level, it’s still off somewhere. Brutalform Posted April 25, 2019 Author Posted April 25, 2019 Getting some of that roundness at the top of the rear wheel well opening a bit flatter would probably be an easy fix, if I had a JoHan body to compare it to, instead of trying to eye it up.
mrmike Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 (edited) I made a template of the rear wheel opening on a piece of cardstock using the Johan '69 Roadrunner. I cut the opening out and taped it to the rear fender of an AMT '69 GTX and traced the new opening onto the GTX. Edited April 26, 2019 by mrmike

"Johan - accept no substitutes" Shame they weren't as respected in their day. When we could buy them new for $5 each! I'm 66 I bought them when they first came out and in the 60's they were $2.00 each and a lot of store had them for as little a $1.00 even today I try to fine and buy any JoHan kit I can I have a good stash of them now but I always loved there kits it's to bad that 90% of there tooling has been lost or sold off for scrap it's truly a lose.

The 69 JoHan Roadrunner is a good basis for a 1968. I try to find them when I can too. $2 is a distant memory.
NYLIBUD Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Looking great.Heres a couple of 70 RoadRunners I did awhile ago.
Brutalform Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 This build was on hold, as I accidentally sat on the body. After acquiring another body, and removing the trim, I realized everything happens for a reason. Ed Flunk, using one of his JoHan bodies as a guide, was kind enough to make me templates to modify the rear wheel wells to make them appear more correct. It’s almost ready for primer. So one thing led to another, and I pulled apart some of the chassis, and engine, to do some additional detailing and repaint the engine block and heads Street Hemi Orange, to give it more of a correct look. The car will still have red line tires in the front, but now it will have MT drag radials, from Chief Joseph in the rear. Also the rear is going to be lowered just a bit also.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Nice Tom! Looks better already! The rear quarter mods make a big difference! Steve

I have a Blue 70 GTX, and a 70 Roadrunner, that will be hitting the bench real soon. I just can’t decide which one is getting the Fireball Six Pack carb set up, and which one will be box stock. I also have his rally wheels rubber tires to use too. I’ve used his rally wheels, and tires on a 70 RR I built for a customer, and they looked fantastic.
StevenGuthmiller Posted May 29, 2019 Posted May 29, 2019 It has my excited to start my Johan '69! I'm planning on doing it as a "not so rare" basic Road Runner that you would have seen a lot of back then. A bench seat post car with a 383 automatic. Now there's a rare car in model world! Steve
