Cool tip, but I honestly wonder how that guy works on models with those long finger nails. I am not picking at him, I am just relating to my own experience, as when my nails get too long, I find it hard to type and work on models etc.

Another way to cheat: Archer Fine Transfers makes many different sizes of weld seams that go on like decals. Here's their #AR88005 Weld Seams sheet.

Update - I just went back and checked out the OPs video. That is the exact same technique I was talking about below.   It was covered in the Model Cars.     

 

For tight areas you can also use tanya 2 part putty then shape the bead marks with a piece of metal rod the correct diameter. Just like real welding it take practice. One trick is to keep the end of the rod slick so it does not stick and pull up the putty.
