youpey Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I am looking to paint a truck the color of the plymouth. do you think the tamiya candy lime green over gloss black would give me similar results. https://www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?I=LXZS06&P=7
Snake45 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I don't believe that would work for you. You might want to go right to one of the "real paint" suppliers like Model Car World or Scale Finishes for what you need. Another idea--it wouldn't be perfect, but would be in the ballpark--would be Model Master Olive Drab 34087, clear-coated. Testor might also have a gloss olive green in the small bottles that might work if you airbrush--I know they used to but can't remember if they still have it in the line.
64Comet404 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 There used to be a Tamiya spray which was very close to that shade (Metallic Olive Green), but it was a limited edition colour and hasn't been available in years. There is a chance that one of the other posters may have a spare can, so you may want to try the Wanted section.
Ironman63 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I'm not completely sure of the year but I think it's 1977 Plymouth Trail Duster and if so, the green is Jade Green code F2. Snake's suggestion of SF or MCW would be your best bet. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcodedisplay.cgi?type=paint&paint=30591&dtcode=DT7835&smodel=Plymouth&syear=1977&smanuf=Chrysler&sname=Jade Green
DiscoRover007 Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Testors Citrus Yellow metallic looks pretty close
my80malibu Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 I don't think it would work. Scale Finishes, or Duplicolor would most likely have something.
youpey Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 i found the original site for this trailduster. the year is 1974. there is not any 1974 that i can find that has a color like this. i think it must be a custom color.
Can-Con Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 '78 RJ3 Citron green poly. I checked Auto Color Library and the '78 Plymouth chart has a list for the Trail Duster with all the same colors on it as on the page below.
youpey Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 thank you. i had seen that one, but it doesnt look like it was available in the 74. i will pick it up. thanks again
Ironman63 Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 The 1974 Plymouth has an Avocado Gold code J6 that may be close to what you are looking for. http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/chipdisplay.cgi?year=1974&manuf=Chrysler&smodel=Plymouth&info=yes&page=1

But, how can you tell what year it is from that pic?
youpey Posted July 2, 2019 Author Posted July 2, 2019 this is the site i normally use https://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/chrysler/1974/all-models/ the avocado gold looks almost brown, however, its definitely the right color. i found this site which has a car sample http://www.2040-cars.com/Plymouth/Duster/1974-plymouth-duster-60k-original-miles-mopar-dodge-chrysler-dart-demon-scamp-1126485/ i am going to try it since it looks like its probably right, and the shade is just off on the first site. thanks for the help guys

I used the Auto Touchup site too before I found the paintref.com site. Paintref has chips for a lot more colors where the other site can be spotty with chip colors.

This is the link to the original page. it says in the article its a 74. Also in the article it says avacado paint. i didnt realize what that meant before someone found the avacado gold paint https://www.automobilemag.com/news/collectible-classic-1974-1980-dodge-ramcharger/ Edited July 2, 2019 by youpey
Tommy124 Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 I think Ford Lime Gold would be quite a good match. And it's available from model color specialists such as Gravity Colors, which means that the metallic flakes should be in scale - unlike automotive sprays which are made for 1:1. And I would use something darker than white as a primer, grey probably, to tone it down a bit.
