TonyK Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 Building the Revell Datsun 510 race car and it comes with grey flexible tubing for the engine compartment but it's not flexible at all. Could be it's old. Anyway, been searching online and in my stash and even a hardware store to find something but come up empty. I have some good black tubing and even red that I can pull the wiring out of and use the covering but nothing grey or silver. Anyone have a suggestion? It has to be thin and small and flexible like a rubber based tube or if it is plastic-like it has to be very flexible. Thanks for any help.
Casey Posted July 1, 2019 Posted July 1, 2019 IIRC the supplied grey tubing is supposed to represent braided lines...on the cheap. Replace it with scale braided line from Detail Master, like so:
TonyK Posted July 1, 2019 Author Posted July 1, 2019 Yes, you're right about what they supplied. I thought about some braided line and you provide a good source so I thank you for that. I may end up going this route but I was trying to take advantage of all the little nubs Revell provided and attach the tubing to them. If I do the braided "hose" I'd have to drill holes where all those nubs are instead. Done that sort of thing hundreds of times but hoped to make this easy on myself.
StevenGuthmiller Posted July 2, 2019 Posted July 2, 2019 Craft stores like Hobby Lobby carry a soft flexible "tubing" for jewelry making. It's not actually tubing, as it's not hollow, but the stuff I have is very flexible, black and about the right size for heater hose. I bought a roll of it some time back but never really used any of it because I prefer coated wire which allows for easier routing because it will retain the shape that you bend it to. I think it's called "jewelry cord". Can't find it now. I guess I might have either thrown it out, or moved it someplace. Just look in the jewelry department of your local craft store. Steve

Pick the silver color, it doesn't look too bad: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wholesale-10M-Rubber-Chinese-Knot-Satin-Macrame-Beading-Jewelry-Rattail-Cords/322528417816?hash=item4b18311818:m:mj3-5ibtqB4K_mqd3M9DtcA

TonyK Posted July 16, 2019 Author Posted July 16, 2019 Good suggestion and I have thought of doing that. A pain but that black tubing works pretty good so might try it and see.
jokar124 Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Try dropping the gray tubing into some hot water and see if it softens. If so, then position it and shape it to suit. If you are lucky, it may hold its' shape when it cools.
John Pol Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 or run a wire in it and shape it the way you want it
