I have all those Dodge grills from original models. Will have to order yours to see how they compare.

To answer your question, my parts bought so far are for a not started project. I will make sure to post pics once done / in progress, the dodge is almost finished though and that would get posted quick. Might snag the dodge hubcaps as well.

Thank you guys!  I too am a slow builder but always have plans for future builds.  I try to finish what I am currently working on before starting another but that is getting harder and harder as my idea motor is in high gear.  I appreciate the fact that you consider my parts worthy for your future builds and will keep an eye out for them.

Some may call that collecting or hording but I have wanted things I seen years ago that are no longer around. I waited until I had time to do the project but the parts vanished. LOL

Thanks guys!  I missed out on the Modelhaus opportunity also as I didn't get back into the game until just before they were gone, and can understand grabbing stuff while it is available.  I appreciate your business and hope to keep creating pieces for a while.  I am somewhat new at making parts, hence the name "Rookie" but have learned a ton of things about the process and hope to expand my projects as my experience grows.  I have been 3d printing now for about 6 years and think back to what models I created at that time and am amazed at how primitive they were compared to what I am doing now.  I hope to keep improving and turning out quality parts for fellow builders.  Thank you again for all of your support!

I think you are wasting your time re-making this grille. The MPC part isn't horrible as a starting point, and what you have so far is appears accurate in several areas-- the gap between the outermost ring and the inner grille section for one. Why not improve upon the MPC grille, drilling out the molded in headlights, adding accurate concave headlight "buckets" (the rear of the sealed beam headlamp, to be accurate), and separate clear headlight lenses instead? Honestly, anything which originally had molded in headlights and is replaced by something else with molded in headlights is not an upgrade IMHO. I don't know if the '72-3 Dogde D/W series grille is a poor fit on the just-reissued '78 cab or not, but it seems like a lot of all-new work, when a more efficient, yet accurate option is available. There's no shame in significantly improving an existing part, especially if that part is already accurate in some areas, yet needs improvement in others.

The Dodge/Plymouth grilles were stamped out of thin aluminum, so they have a smooth, almost organic look to them, which is why they have smooth curves everywhere, and no sharp 90* corners nor edges

 

Compare the MPC and your grille to the real thing:

 

I love that you are looking for new and undervalued parts to produce, but I understand how much work is involved, for what will likely be a labor of love. Hopefully all my constructive criticism and suggestions above make sense and are helpful.

Thanks Casey for the constructive criticism and your honest opinion.  I agree with the molded in headlights and that is why I left the headlight area blank to either place a lens or drill it out (optional for the builder).  I agree the MPC grill is very usable and fairly accurate but has its flaws as well.  I wanted to open up the grill a little and expose the radiator behind it.  It is not perfect by any stretch but after comparing mine with the MPC, and the 1:1 you posted, I find I have quite a few elements that are accurate.  My headlight buckets are a little off and think the MPC buckets are better even with the molded in headlight.  I guess what I am saying is that they both have merits and flaws and it will come down to builders choice and availability of their choice.  I am just happy to offer an option for folks. 

On the Ford van wheels and hubcaps,  a valid point was mentioned in that the hub area would theoretically be covered by said hubcaps, ubut what if the builder chooses to leave one exposed for a worn used look.  The link you provided is not clear on what people are requesting specifically.  I seem to recall that the old MPC Ford vans (Juke Box etc.) had a set of "steel wheels with hub caps" but again, I am not sure if that is what is being requested.  I appreciate the info and I don't want to seem ignorant but I would like some clarification on what is wanted for this.  Thanks again!    Bill

Bill is correct. There are rims & hubcaps in the MPC 78 Ford "SunRunner" van kit.

Probably in other MPC vans as well, but that's the only kit I have.

They are not correct. The lettering should be stamped into the cap, not raised.

The Chevy hubcaps look great Bill, I will definitely order a few sets! A little clarification on application. That hubcap ( first example) was used from 1969 thru 1975 on 1/2 ton pickups and vans, base models came with the painted caps, higher trim or optional caps were stainless. In 1976, the higher trim vehicles got the newer flat aluminum ( second example) and was used on pickups up to 1987 and vans into the 90's. However the old style hubcap  (first example) continued to be used from 1976 thru 1978 on base models. Thanks again for doing these correctly.

Finally my '69 C 10 has the correct 1/2 ton hubcaps ( hubcap and wheel color was silver in early '69, changed to white  starting in '70 ). Thanks again Bill for supplying these excellent never done before pieces! Any possibility of doing the '67-'77 Ford F 250 F 350 cap (  in the 12" diameter like the Dodge 200 ) ? The  cap the comes with the Moebius Ford pickup models is too small, like it was designed to fit a  small 15" wheel.

Bill, you have done a great job supplementing these Moebius kits. Finally got refocused on this 67 that I started then stripped last summer. You have a lot more available now than when I started this, so it seems my lack of drive to finish a build has paid off in this case..

Thank you Tom!  I will look into doing some hubcaps!  Your Chevy looks great!  I didn't realize they were ever silver.  Learn something new everyday!  Thank you for posting pics of your projects with my parts.  I haven't had time to build much these days and to "see" what they look like all painted up and on a completed build makes my day!

Thank you Jim!  I love the Ford!  I recognize a few items and of course I appreciate the South Dakota plates!  Wonderful job on this so far!  I am glad your procrastination paid off!   I hope you saw the 67 hood badges and the 67 door panels I offer now.   I can;t wait to see more of your work!
