1972 GMC “Baja” Jimmy (In memory of the junkman)

I built this back around 1988 the years have took its  toll on it.  I’ve lost several pieces it stayed in my mom and dad‘s house for many years before I retrieved it my Mom and Dad both smoked very heavy and it  has  bad nicotine damage to the paint and decals so I’ve decided to rebuild it. A friend of mine called the “Junkman” who came to shows in St. Louis for many years helped get the parts I needed to build it back in 1988. He long has passed away but it was always a treat to visit his house and go down to the basement and stand in all and look at those old model kits and “Junk” so this build I’m  dedicating it to him. Thanks for the  memories Charlie.

I'll be following this build. I have a pair of these kits, in the Chevy Version. I'd like to convert one to a GMC.

Love the old Jimmys & Blazers! I built the Bushwhacker as a kid. It's in terrible shape but will get rebuilt.

Well it been almost a year since I’ve done anything to this but I did get it repainted and I ordered a hood off of eBay that didn’t fit so with lots of re working the the hood I got it as good as it’s going to get

I was wondering if you’d be interested in a stock hood from a Blazer kit, I have an extra if you need it. I like what your doing here, great work so far. Early Baja vehicles are really cool. I’d love to do a replica of Steve McQueens Truck from way back when. Keep at it I’d love to see it completed! PM me, if your interested.

Re-Visited this build today. I removed the gauges and interior details. Painted the dash, interior tub, and hood today.

That's some good progress. Still watching to see what you do with this. I still haven't done anything with my rebuilders.

It’s been a very long time since I had this on the bench. Today I dug it out and  I was really never happy with the Beige paint job so I repainted it a Deep Blue. I also had been working on getting the engine to fit into the frame I think I finally got it. Hope to have more updates soon.
