JollySipper Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 I vaguely remember there being diecast cars advertised in the Parade magazine in the late '80s and early '90s..... I seem to remember a '50s Buick convertible. I'm just wondering if anyone else remembers this? Do they still sell diecast vehicles in that magazine? What company was it that sold them? Thanks.......
Snake45 Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Sounds like Franklin Mint. They ran a lot of ads in various "mainstream" magazines back in the day. Haven't seen ads like that for a long time, except in certain car magazines, and those are for overpriced 1/18ths.
vincen47 Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Yes, I remember that too. As a kid, the only reason I looked through it was for those ads. I know Danbury Mint advertised, because it was a DM 1957 Bel Air convertible I fell hard for and never forgot about. As a kid, there was no chance I could get one, but that didn’t stop me from dreaming about it. Fast forward nearly 30 years and I recently got one, the same one from that ad. Better late than never.
Tom Geiger Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 There was a company that advertised in that Sunday newspaper insert magazine. They had a name that ended with "Mint", but were just a mail order retailer. Everything they had in their ad and catalog was made by someone else.

It was before my teen years that I remember seeing them........ Seems like the weeks that they didn't have cars advertised, it was some sort of decorative plate or something.
vamach1 Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 I think some of the Matchbox 1/43 cars were advertised. I'm pretty sure I got some for Christmas and my mother would have ordered them. The Boss 429 comes to mind.
randyc Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Fairfield mint is a name that shows up. That's usually cheaper cars in a Fairfield mint box.

We have a winner! That's the company I was thinking about. As you said, cheap, poor, diecast we recognize as being from other manufacturers being sold under their banner.

They were sold in sets, as I remember and I bought the first set. Right now I have no idea what I did with them?

Not sure where I found the ad to order them from. Not even sure what all the cars were or where they are in my collection now. There was a 67 Mustang, 57 Chevy, 56 T bird, 50 something Vette, and a couple more i can't even remember.
madhorseman Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 Cool! the ones I remember Randy, were a 1966 Fairlane, '67 GTO, '70 GTX, and a '70 Chevelle.

I don't remember any of those in my set. Mine might have been a 50s set? The 67 Mustang might be Franklin Mint instead. I have the FM 60s set in 1/43.
