Does any one have suggestions for off the shelf color matches to the  red and white used on a stock 55 Cameo? Looking for Testors, Tamiya, colors.

Thanks for the help. I have a old Walmart checkerboard boxed version, that I thought I would finally build.

The Cameo Carriers that I recall were offered in just a few color combinations. The '55's seemed to be mostly White with Red accents and Red Interiors. They may have offered the colors reversed but I don't remember seeing them. At some point I remember a Black Cameo with White trim, but this might have been something the owner had done. The other combination I remember, and this may have been a '56 or '57 design, was a Turquoise color with White trim. This is a good kit and about the only thing I can recall being a problem was the fitment of the provided windows and the window openings. I'd enjoy watching your build so please consider posting it here.

The color names are Commercial Red & Bombay Ivory. Lots of pics of plain 1955 pickups painted in either color on Google Images.

I saw nothing on the Tamiya chart that could pass for the Ivory but there are a few possibilities for the Red. Commercial Red is non-metallic.

Krylon makes a couple different Gloss Ivorys that oughta getcha pretty close.

My suggestions would be Testors "Wimbledon White", (a Ford color, but sort of a creamy ivory color) and Testors "Italian Red".

In their lacquer line if you can still get them.

I'm not certain if they're available.

I haven't bought any Testors spray lacquer for quite some time.

I know it's not the brands you mentioned but I know that Duplicolor "perfect match" lacquer has Wimbledon white and a few shades of non Metallic red that will get you darn close!!

I bet if you have a local automotive paint store in town they would mix you up some of each... most places cant mix less than a half pint though... but they might.

You just need the base coat anyway... then use clear of your choosing.

I agree with Steve as far as this being "In the ballpark". Tamiya TS8 Italian Red and TS7 Racing White may be good alternatives. TS7 is a warm, brownish white like Wimbledon White. You can mess with the final color by using different color primers. Grey will darken the final shade, Tamiya white or pink will make the red pop more. I might try Tamiya white primer, spray the TS7, mask the red area, shoot Tamiya pink primer, then TS8.

The only reason that I mention Testors Lacquers is because it is easy to find, (at least I believe it still is) and easy to work with.

Personally, I use either Scale Finishes, or MCW, but if you're not afraid to work with automotive lacquers, Duplicolor is a very good choice in this instance.

They carry Wimbledon White and several different bright reds in a lot of auto parts stores.

Another good choice for the white in Duplicolor is GM "Dover/Arctic White".

It's a little less cream colored than Wimbledon White, but not stark white either.

The '55 was red and white only, much like the first-year Corvette. Color options came for '56. And yeah, the glass fit is pretty bad, especially on the earlier runs of the kit. Since he says he has the Walmart boxing of the kit (which was fairly recent) I'm hoping he'll have better luck with the window fit.
