matthijsgrit Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Got it (I think)! Totally by accident and not at all what I had expected. Looking forward to the explanation of the hint Michael posted 3 hours ago.
DonW Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Almost gave up on this one but perseverance and wild guesswork got me there in the end! Nice one Mike!
carsntrucks4you Posted April 4, 2020 Author Posted April 4, 2020 (edited) I think that I had confused most of you with this car. The easy part was that this is a Utility or Ute, the Australian pickup. And yes it is a car that was build by Chrysler Australia from 10/1975-10/1976 and it is based on the Chrysler Valiant VK. The VK Utility it was sold as a Dodge according to my source. Although a different source listed that there were also Valiant VK Utility. The brochures that I found are only Ddge VK's. The Dodge name was used for the cheaper versions of the Chrysler Valiant VJ Utility or Chrysler Valiant VH Utility. Maybe some of our members down under can clarify this. Some members who sent in an answer said Chrysler Valiant Ute, but missed the correct version. They mention either VH or VJ but both are the predecessors. Sorry for that. The following members l said Dodge VK Utility: porschercr matthijsgrit GeeBee DonW dw1603 Bucky Congratulations Edited April 4, 2020 by carsntrucks4you
peteski Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 That sure was a strange looking vehicle, but not unpleasant on the eye. The visor though is not something I would keep. The grill area sort of reminded me of the 1st generation Camaro or Firebird. I was just reading about the Ford Ranchero in the recent issue of Collectible Automobile Mag. It seems that the idea of combining a passenger car with a pickup truck originated in Australia, in early 1930s.
