Hey guys, my next project after the hebmuller will be a monogram 36 ford 3 window. I would like to chop it but all i've previously chopped have been 5 windows and I have very little idea where to make the cuts for the rear of the roof. I would like more of a custom chop than hot rod chop as the plan is to use a la salle grille. Thanks in advance

HaHa, I was just researching this last night because I am contemplating do it on my '36 five window. I'm not sure how chopping a 3 and 5 window would differ, but I found this thread which will be my inspiration.

Its mainly the rear im stuck on, i think the 5 windows are a little simpler to chop. if you cut the rear window section out but leave the side windows intact on the body then chop them down with the rest of the roof. My previous chops have been a 40 ford, 62 bel air, 48 ford woody(sectioned too) and a mk2 jag. They weren't too bad to do because of the side windows. Its the lack of side windows thats throwing me off i think. I've had a look on the hamb and ccc forums but the chops they show dont really show where the cuts were done. Maybe I should put a post on ccc in the hope of someone having pics of the cuts or at least a pic of the chop before the welds were cleaned up.

You may want to use the AMT '36 Ford as your starting point, as it has a chopped top piece as an option.

I already have the monogram kit and a mcg grille and surround to fit it mate. The amt kits are kinda expensive on this side of the pond

I think that AMT offered a '36 Ford that could be built as a roadster or a three window with the option of a chopped top. The chopped top part was a single part  and extended below the side body moldings. Someone is bound to have one that they would trade to you.

If you're doing a 5-window '36, this should help...

Here's a thread on a '36 three-window chop...probably more cutting than I'd do, bit the end result looks good.

More pix, same guy, and same kit you're doing, by the way...

One of my WIPs is a 36 Ford Lakester for which I decided to chop with a distinct forward slope. Perhaps there shots will help.

Cheers Misha
