Like a losing a little corner of America. If he could take a peak back, I'd love to hear what he'd write from beyond. I'll bet it would be choice.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters of his generation. Bob Dylan lists him as one of his favorites. Mostly a folk writer, he was a master of lyrics and his songs have been covered by a many artists. Discovered by Kris Kristofferson, he's been around since the early 70's and was often a guest on Austin City Limits. Beyond that, a difficult talent to pigeonhole in a brief description, yet had a very broad following for decades.

OH yes, I'd forgotten that one! B)

The only song of his I could think of was "Hello in There," which was famously covered by Bette Midler. All these years I've been thinking "Ol 55" was him, too, and just found out it was Tom Waits!

Kind of a legend in folk/country world. Sad to see him pass. He survived cancer and heart disease. Only 73. I saw him in concert about 27 years ago...
