Lunajammer Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Like a losing a little corner of America. If he could take a peak back, I'd love to hear what he'd write from beyond. I'll bet it would be choice.
unclescott58 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Don't mean to be crass or anything. But who is John Prine?
Lunajammer Posted April 8, 2020 Author Posted April 8, 2020 Widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters of his generation. Bob Dylan lists him as one of his favorites. Mostly a folk writer, he was a master of lyrics and his songs have been covered by a many artists. Discovered by Kris Kristofferson, he's been around since the early 70's and was often a guest on Austin City Limits. Beyond that, a difficult talent to pigeonhole in a brief description, yet had a very broad following for decades.

The only song of his I could think of was "Hello in There," which was famously covered by Bette Midler. All these years I've been thinking "Ol 55" was him, too, and just found out it was Tom Waits!

StevenGuthmiller Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 I had the "Bruised Orange" album when I was a kid. I loved the songs "Fish and Whistle", and especially, "Aw Heck". Steve
Snake45 Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Just remembered another JP song I liked: "Dear Abby." Hilarious! Signed, Just Married
WigWag Workshop Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 First song I heard of his was "Illegal Smile" and the next day I went to the record store and purchased his album. -Steven
Dave Ambrose Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 This is, ironically, one of my John Prine favorites. You can play it at my funeral.
