RIP Sir Stirling Moss, a gentleman among men. Passed away after a long illness aged 90. One of the guys that brought improved safety to motorsport though he'll be remembered mostly as the racer that still wore his vintage helmet

The greatest Grand Prix racing driver never to be World Champion.

My dad encountered him on a vintage car rally some years back. His attitude to proceedings was 'Get out of my bl**dy way!'.

You don't get to be that successful in motor racing without a certain aggressive streak. Very sadly missed.

Oh wow. ? Stirling Moss is gone. Just read his biography about a year ago at this time. Loved watching interviews with him. He may have been competitive, but always seemed to come off as a gentleman. He was good at what he did, and appeared to enjoy what he did. I'm going to miss one of the all time greats. Goodbye Stirling. God bless.

Stirling was to Juan Manuel Fangio what Reubens Barrichello was to Michael Schumacher. A true gentleman, a devoted teammate and a great driver. RIP Stirling.

Also a forerunner of the hard-headed professional school of drivers. He knew how to behave, certainly - but he also knew how to get what was his due. And I agree, Tom. Moss always said Fangio was the best.

His career was sadly cut short just when I began following the sport.  It was remarkable he survived his era; he lost so many friends. He was retired from driving for 58 years!
