Bainford Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 Looking good. Really good radiator texture/detail is something the hobby is missing (or, at least, I have missed it). I have been looking for something PE for years that accurately represents radiator fins, but haven't been thrilled with anything I have seen yet. What I would really like to see is one of the better 3D printers print up a sheet of three-core radiator cores/fins. Then one could easily scratch any size or shape radiator needed by cutting a 'core' from the sheet and adding some easily made tanks. 1

I have seen some model RR radiator grilles/screens that look pretty dang nice. I couldn't tell you which ones, but I've seen 'em!? 1

absmiami Posted July 25, 2024 Author Posted July 25, 2024 Gracias runningman - thinking about radiators - even the best photo-etched patterns are not true scale for 24th - but i think that good patterns mite be just over the next hill - think 3D printing - William Cunningham has done it really well in this scale … how about it Decalcas ? Pierre Rivard Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Your chassis fabrication looks most convincing. Period picture below demonstrates the "simplify, then add lightness" quote from Chapman. Great for winning races... not so good if you crash...

Big John Posted July 31, 2024 Posted July 31, 2024 Come on, that's a 1/2 scale car! Andrew, I'm proud of you, you actually used some brass in the build. Wonderful attention to the details as usual beautiful!
absmiami Posted August 2, 2024 Author Posted August 2, 2024 Bford, John, PR - gracias x 3 Bford - now that you’ve gotten your hands on the classic Merit Eleven - let me know if you are thinking about a build w a climax engine - i got a scheme for you to consider - Reaearch - the auction house photos of the Halford Sixteen are limited - there are more detailed pix of other sixteens on line - but this car went through dozens of changes during its brief competition life - and all of these cars requred lots of upgrades when they were restored - some have new chassis and many have replacement body panels- the Barber Museum Sixteen appears to be somewhat period original - but i don’t think that its a runner, so …
absmiami Posted August 2, 2024 Author Posted August 2, 2024 So - as i build up the driver’s compartment and the rear frame and suspension - i’ve got four sources to refer to - cutaways - there are several - and most are helpful - most are on-line … - the on-line Motorsports Images site - a content search for the Sixteen revealed about a dozen great black and white pix of the driving compartment, transmission, and rear frame and suspension on a series one Sixteen - the site “forbids” re-posting - which i will honor …
