Sledsel Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 (edited) FYI Watch how you run the plug wires, I see the wires and plug locations incorrect a lot on builds by people not familiar with this engine. Adding this for reference. Build looking nice so far. Simple yet nice kit when built. Edited July 31, 2020 by Sledsel
mrmike Posted July 31, 2020 Author Posted July 31, 2020 Yep! The plug wires run below the exhaust manifolds. Thanks, Andy!
mrmike Posted August 1, 2020 Author Posted August 1, 2020 I finally got the engine wired and installed into the chassis and I completed the mobile phone. More Vega$ to come...
mrmike Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 I got the '57 T-Bird into primer this afternoon. Now to let this dry thoroughly and then some sanding. More Vega$ to come...
David Miller Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 I built this one 37 years ago or so . i’ve still got it . I recently found a complete kit , although the box is rough and unsealed it looked complete , at a flea/antique market for $25 I think it was . I’m thinking of going back and getting it , but it’ll probably end up a Gasser .
mrmike Posted August 5, 2020 Author Posted August 5, 2020 $25 for a flea market special is a lot of money, IMHO. You can pay that much on ebay and get a better quality kit!
mrmike Posted August 13, 2020 Author Posted August 13, 2020 I fired up the paintbooth and painted the '57 T-Bird with Tamiya TS-86 Pure Red. Looks pretty good, too! Vega$ will return...
mrmike Posted August 22, 2020 Author Posted August 22, 2020 I decided to add another, deeper coat of Tamiya TS-86 Pure Red to the T-Bird! More Vega$ to come...
mrmike Posted September 3, 2020 Author Posted September 3, 2020 i have been detailing the Continental kit on this '57 T-Bird. Using a silver Sharpie, I highlighted the Thunderbird emblem on the spare tire cover. One of the things I found interesting was the ends of the stone tray were painted silver on the real Vega$ T-Bird. They are usually body color. I haven't been able to find any other pictures that show the Continental kit stone shield from above. I decided to paint the ends of the tray silver and will leave it at that. More Vega$ to come...
mrmike Posted September 15, 2020 Author Posted September 15, 2020 Painted and clearcoated! I drilled a hole in the middle of the rear panel for the antenna. The interior is in place. More Vega$ to come...
mrmike Posted September 16, 2020 Author Posted September 16, 2020 Almost done! Here's the T-Bird with the interior added. A shot of the engine compartment and the T-Bird with the chassis installed. More Vega$ to come...
doorsovdoon Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 Classic T-Bird colour. Looks really nice! These older kits can look so good.
mrmike Posted September 17, 2020 Author Posted September 17, 2020 Thanks guys! I thought the details and moldings were a little soft. Attachment points are not there. I'm not really a fan of these old kits that everyone says are really great!
David Miller Posted September 17, 2020 Posted September 17, 2020 25$ was a fair price to me , copy right says 1979 . That seems about right to the one in built , I would have been 14(ish) when I built mine .
mrmike Posted September 18, 2020 Author Posted September 18, 2020 I have finished my Vega$ '57 T-Bird and it is posted in Under Glass-Model Cars. I would like to thank all those who have taken the time to view and to comment on my WIP.
