vamach1 Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 So here are five contenders for the best diecast 427 Cobras (based on the ones I have in my collection). Post any you have not shown here. #1 - Franklin Mint Super Snake. The top of the class. Although a few were made due to the almost absurdity of a dual supercharged car that weighed a little over a ton, this model recreates the real one in amazing detail. The FM resale market is still pretty strong for the various Cobra’s they made. #2 - WIX 427 Cobra. Great model for the money. This gem can be found for an average of $50 online and Is very well done. #3 - NAPA 427 Spin out Cobra. Like the WIX Cobra this can also be found for sale online and Is from the same casting as the WIX model. #4 - Burago 427 street version. Available in many colors and in a kit form too this one screws together, It is oversized and the wire wheels are pretty bad. #5 - Revell 427 street version. No side pipes or exhaust system. A later “race” version had the cutouts and sidepipes but overall it is pretty disappointing,
cobraman Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Are you looking for die cast in any scale and ones of only a certain quality ? And only 427 models ?

randyc Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 (edited) There is a gray Wix cobra too. I remember it has different bumper arrangement. Not sure what else. I have both of the Wix. Compared to the Boris art thing, I chose the Wix easily. To me, that painted up thing was horrendous. I made good money reselling it though. Edited July 24, 2020 by randyc
Snake45 Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 (edited) It's certainly not "the best," but it's a nice little model and well worth its modest $10 asking price (Rite-Aid). Welly 427, shown here with a built Revell 1/24 plastic kit. Edited July 24, 2020 by Snake45

cobraman Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Here are some of my 427 die cast Cobra’s . I focused on only the larger scales . The loose ones are Creative Masterpiece , Franklin Mint and Kyosho . You can tell the boxed ones . Now to put them back ! Enjoy the pics .
Gramps46 Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Rex, I am going to break your rule about posting only those not already posted and go with this picture which I already had. Lots of duplicates with yours I am afraid. All are 427 except for the first one - Left to right Shelby Collectibles CSX2000 Wix Icons Silver Wix Icons Blue Wix Icons White Elvis Welly blue Franklin Mint Bare Revell Street Red Welly Red Majorette Red - More like an AC
cobraman Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Thanks Gary. I have been collecting Cobra's since 1992 and really took off in 1999 when I discovered ebay.

Wow Ray - that is one crazy collection for sure. I’ve got some 1/18 Coupes and roadsters and perhaps 100 Hotwheels sized Cobra’s and a fair amount of 1/43 diecast and kits but now we know why you are cobraman. I am going to the All Ford show next weekend @ Carlisle PA and hope to pick up some more Mustangs, Cobras and GT40s. I have been on Ebay about the same time and wish I got a rebate for the thousands (shhhh) I have probably spent over the last 20 years.
cobraman Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 Thanks Rex. I got a bit carried away over the years. Just ordered 2 more Cobra's yesterday. If you count all my Cobra's in all the different materials I am pushing or perhaps a little over 750. I stopped for awhile but when I see one I don't have sometimes I can't help myself. I kick myself for never picking up the Super Snake when they were a reasonable ( kind of ) price.

Not having a basement is probably what has held me back on having collected more than I have. The HW size cars are over 2K last time I counted and the model kits and and other scale diecasts probably number 500 or so. Since I collect all years of Mustangs and GT40’s that expands the possibilities. Thanks again for sharing your obsession that many of us can understand even if our non-model car obsessed friends do not.?
cobraman Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 I guess you threw the gauntlet down and I better start buying more ! My problem is room. I have 6 display cases in the house and two in the garage. Wife says " you want more display cases just get rid of one of the guns safes ". Not gonna happen Debi ! ?
randyc Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 I think it will be fun to watch you guys battle it out. Lol

cobraman Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I'll just wave the white flag. I am no way pulling out all my little ones for a pic. ?

I hear you - it’s a lot of work. I have probably ten time more Mustangs that Cobras that I think I would need several tables to lay out. As you can see these are all taken out of the packaging as I do not have room to store that many still in the peg card or box. I have a few special cars in the original packaging. Of course they are worth more unopened but I’m sure someone would take them off my hands someday. I have a few of the expensive plexiglas display cases for 1/64 cars with about 150 various cars in them but cost aside I would need a lot of blank wall space to put up a few dozen of them. It’s bad enough I have taken over a portion of the bedroom closet to store my models.?
cobraman Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 I of coarse love your Cobra collection. I was trying to look through the pics to see what if any I am missing. Do you always take them out of the package ? I think half of mine are not. They take up a lot more room. I did a rough count of just my small ones and I have a bit over 400 or so. That does include all that are small and not just HW, JL's and Greenlight. I think I included some of my 1/43 as well. Do you collect the Muscle Machines as well ? My count does also include some duplicates. My wife and daughter always pick one up if they happen to see one while out and about.

Not a fan of the the Muscle Machines castings with the oversized tires and engines but almost anything else Mustang, GT40, Cobra or Pantera related usually is added to the 24 or 48 car cases organized by type and sometimes color if I have enough. I’ve bought a few Green Machine and Autoworld Red chase cars but those are expensive because either they never make it to a store shelf or the dealers that buy cases sell them for $30 and up per car. I am headed to Carlisle PA on Friday For the All Ford show so I’m sure I will be adding a few more cars to the collection.? Edited July 26, 2020 by vamach1
