stitchdup Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 I needed to do something at work (im nightwatch on a boat) so since I have some 17" teddies and splash paints I'm building a 90s style harlequin. I'm using the fujimi golf cl/gl kit. The first step was to fill the sunroof area as it always sinks when the paint goes on. Next I smoothed out the rear bumper to get rid of the upper bodylines. Around the front the bumper was just too fussy so to go with the late 90s brit look the indicators/fog lights and number plate have been deleted. I'm thinking the rear lights will be tinted green again for the 90s look. The wheels will be white and most of the interior will be black with the 4 exterior colours in the centers of the seats. While the kit has an engine plate if you want to open the hood, this one will be remaining a curbside, but it will be slammed and stanced as all vws should be, lol
iamsuperdan Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 You have my attention! I've always loved the Harlequin Golfs. Got to play with them when new, as I spent most of the 90s working at the local VW dealer.
Spottedlaurel Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Look forward to seeing it progress. Sounds like you have a clear plan and there's a good start there.
Bugatti Fan Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Used to be one parked up regularly a few streets away. Will be interested in seeing the progress on this model. It must be the car equivalent of putting the multi camouflage paint job on a Saab Viggen Aircraft only much brighter!
GeeBee Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 I worked for V.A.G UK, (Volkswagen Audi group) I still remember seeing one of these and thinking someone at Wolfsburg was having a laugh, after I learnt what it was, my next question was Why ???

It was the polo harlequin we got in the UK but there are a few golfs done in the paint now but not real ones. There was one in aberdeen (polo) that was always parked in the graveyard on union street with the number plate A11LSD On 8/16/2020 at 2:15 AM, iamsuperdan said: You have my attention! I'd love to have one but the interiors on them were a bit plain for the outside. I thought briefly about giving it the US spec bumper side lights (indicators?) but it wouldn't have fitted the build theme. Might do that when I get back to the van On 8/16/2020 at 6:43 AM, Spottedlaurel said: Look forward to seeing it progress. Sounds like you have a clear plan and there's a good start there. Thanks, I'm back to my mk1 escort just now since its close to done, and I built a deutz d30 at work last night so I'll weather both of them at the same time, then back to this

True, as the Golfs were produced for the U.S market, my job involved travelling to Germany many times a year, I always saw VW's that never made it to the U.K

I'd be very interested to see them
89AKurt Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Because I owned a '91 Jetta GLi, I did a Golf just because. I did the green Hella taillights! Made some other modifications too. But did a "normal" paint color (not colors). Will stay tuned.... (oh that's a bad pun ?).

Been planning to get a set of the scale production ones for a mk2. I've also been trying to get one of the mk2 jetta transkits but they are pricey when they turn up

I'd be very interested to see them Very probably, I've boxes if negatives and transparency film and prints stored in boxes, I left British Leyland in 1985 and changed my career and started off as a professional photographer, I had to,as my bank manager told me when I needed a mortgage, "Go and get a proper job" so I ended up at Volkswagen-Audi, I still did my photography part time and then left V.A.G after 6 years, I've been self employed ever since. Here's a shot I found a few weeks ago while looking through some old photos, a few drinks after work in Germany, I'm not looking too happy as my beer glass is empty.
