junkyardjeff Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 This was in the batch of stuff my friend got me and I have never seen it before,if I can get a hood and tailgate it might get rebuild as a 3/4 ton.
Plowboy Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 I built one of those not too long ago. Only I changed it to a short bed using the '72 GMC parts. The AMT hood will fit. But, not as well as the MPC.
gtx6970 Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 I think i have a hood for one of these. Will ck

Plowboy Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Yeah. Your kit is an MPC. The grille is much more accurate than the AMT counterpart. You could use the GMC hood and sand away the letters. The rear fenders from the GMC are actually more accurate than the MPC's are. I'm planning a long stepside GMC with the leftovers I have.
junkyardjeff Posted October 5, 2020 Author Posted October 5, 2020 Did not know MPC made one and thought it was a AMT.
Bucky Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Not sure when they were made, but the year model should be '71-'72. There were three issues I know of...Rolling Thunder...Heavy Pedal...Chevy Step Side.
Plowboy Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 I'm thinking mid '70's. But, not sure. 31 minutes ago, junkyardjeff said: About what years were these made.

Plowboy Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 Just checked the instructions on mine and they're dated 1975.
Fabrux Posted October 6, 2020 Posted October 6, 2020 All your questions are answered in my article. ? https://www.sprue.xyz/articles/amt_mpc_action_line

It came from the '72 GMC tooling. That's why the '72 GMC can't be reissued. Steve Milberry and I had this discussion when I built my MPC '72 Chevy. If you compare the two, especially the grilles, you'll instantly see they're not from the same tooling.
89AKurt Posted October 7, 2020 Posted October 7, 2020 I'll be watching this. ? If you want, I made much more realistic door handles, but they aren't chrome plated. (somewhere in my WIP '69)
