Yeah, they did, it's the same. If they didn't, how does one explain that the parts in the Modelhaus resin kit are identical to the Johan kit?

Modelhaus

The Modelhaus kit pictured is a Chrysler.  Obviously based on the Plymouth (as was the 1:1 Chrysler wagon) but different.

Yeah, the prices for Modelhaus stuff on "the Bay" are absurd.  I've got 2 of their complete kits ('57 Lincoln & '59 Oldsmobile) and a couple of conversions ('51 Ford & '52 Chevy).  The thought of selling them on "the Bay" has crossed my mind, but I buy stuff to build, not profit on.

The model in the OP isn't even a Modelhaus repop. The guy selling it is trying to palm off a Johan kit as a Modelhaus resin. Check out the stamping on the chassis:

Here are more photos from Pickclick.

The engine is missing parts.

The wheels and tires don't look like the ones from the kit.

They "might" be Modelhaus. ??

Although, truth be told, I did try to find a pic of a mobility scooter with donk wheels on it to post as a joke, I came up empty. ?

Me too. Same name, same thought processes. Found some extremely tasteless custom mobility scooters that I still can't unsee though.....

I bought two kits when Don and Carol announced their retirement- a 64 Dodge Crew Cab pickup and a Shasta travel trailer- and have since sold off the Dodge. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do with it so I sold it to someone who I knew would build it. I could have listed it on eBay and made a killing but didn't. I think the Shasta camper will end up behind a 66 Suburban, not sure, but it will get built! I am sure some of the Modelhaus stuff on eBay is being listed by speculators who loaded up and have been waiting for the right time to sell.

That wagon has been on eBay a while. Pretty much trolling for suckers. It’s not Modelhaus nor Hettick. Paul always starts his out low and his fans drive the prices!

And as said the wagon isn’t a particularly rare kit. It was only a promo when new, and I believe first issue was in the Oldies series. And as you see, the chassis is just a promo plate.

As said these were once cheap, and still can be found reasonable if you look. I started this one in the cheap days, used three kits to get it right!

And for the question about selling Modelhaus kits.. when Don announced the business closing and because he’s a class act, he gave us all a last call. That resulted in a speculative rush that I understand resulted in huge orders.  Enough so that the Holthauses worked a year or more later than they wanted.  That bothered me.

I agree.

That bothers me as well.

One more reason to ignore these vultures when they offer anything for sale.

Personally, I consider any Modelhaus kit as a recently discontinued model kit and value it as such.

There are some that I would like to have, but honestly, if I hadn't bought them over the past 30 years, do I really need them now?

And if the opportunity to pick one up ever does arise, it's not going to be through dealing with one of these crooks.

Does anyone know of somebody paying a ridiculous price for a Modelhaus (or any other out of production) aftermarket kit?  I'm sure it has happened, but someone paying a big price is more likely someone who owns the 1:1 version, is willing to step up to get one in scale, and isn't particularly active as a builder or collector...just wants his/her own car in scale.

I sent a message to the seller a couple of days ago pointing out that it's not a Modelhaus resin model, just a Johan USA Oldies plastic kit. Nuthin' but crickets from his end. :D

This is a classic case of the 'Golden Turd' rule in action

If some one else owns it~Its Gold...if I own it, Its a turd...until it changes possession and then it miraculously turns into gold

LOL!  That's why I mock clueless eBay model sellers as "Anteek & Junque Dealers."  Or "wanna-be American Pickers."

When I see a high-priced listing for a common kit, glue-bombed and looking like it was hand-painted by a 5-yr old, the first thing I do is check the seller's other items.  Usually they only have 1 or 2 scale models listed. Their other items are the rest of the off-topic junk they found at the same yard sale as the models.

Couple of years ago, I saw an eBay seller listing a bunch of old Modelhaus kits.  He turned out to live not far from me.  He had done his research and knew what the Modelhaus kits were worth.  (Drat!)  But he didn't ask outrageous prices, either.  He got the stuff from an elderly man who, sadly, had to go into an assisted-living facility. That man had collected for many years and had a garage full of model cars and related stuff.  The eBay seller bought it all from a Craigslist ad. (Drat again!)

That original owner liked to build police cars.  I got a resin 4-door '68 Plymouth Belvedere (Adam-12!).  Plus a few more kits, and a big plastic tub full of aftermarket police and other accessories:  roof lights, decals, PPP wheels etc.
