Did some test spots with the paint today, I'm liking the Kingfisher Blue and Aztec Bronze the most. The cup on the left is Champagne Gold and the tall bottle is Solar Gold.

Thanks, Carl. I've used the same method for years when painting 1-1 car parts that have that kind of texture, like radio fascia plates and clock bezels.

I just noticed your picture of the Aztec Bronze spray can is parked as being a Ford color. Ford did use some very nice looking colors along that line on mid '60's Mustangs and others. I think just about any darker body color will darken a little against the black colored vinyl roof. Maybe one of the silver or light gold shades against the black for more of a contrast.

Yes, I was thinking the black roof against those two colours would be quite dark, especially the Aztec Bronze. The Ford Aztec Bronze was very popular on Ford Fiesta's and Capri's and they usually had a beige or brown vinyl roof, but that's a very 70's colour combo, I don't think it would suit a 60's car. Although I'm really liking the Kingfisher Blue, I think the Solar Gold (big bottle) would be best suited to the black roof. Hmmm, decisions! haah,

Fitted the rear fender skirts and trimmed off the extensions that represent the arch trim, it does look better actually! Thanks to carmak for pointing them out, I would never have noticed.

I agree, that may make a better match. The Interior color ? Now this is an area where you could go with some grays and black trim, or there are some military shades with hints of a very light beigh that will also match up with some silvers. Your going to need to buy some more spoons for testing.

Well, most of the interior is already black so I'm half way there, Lol. I have a can of gunmetal grey that's very close to primer colour but has a bit more blue in it. I'll shoot some on a bottle and see what it looks like, I really need to buy some plastic spoons, xD

I've decided on Solar Gold for the body, so here's some interior options I'm looking at. The door cards on the first pic look close to Champagne Gold and the seats a very light blue like I used on my '71 Thunderbird recently. The second picture is all black, the third is a combination of gold and tan, could be brown? not sure, and I don't have those colours to hand, and the last picture is cream, maybe gold, and white.

Got the first coat of paint on, it's only the first coat and it's a very light coat at that but already looks sooo good!. You were right Dave, Solar Gold was a better choice over the Kingfisher Blue and Aztec Bronze I think. I used two different filters on my camera to try and show what it looks like. It's too dark now so will leave this until tomorrow.

Looking at your two interior picture the first one would give you two contrasting colors to the exterior and the second picture, a different year model but all the same, would be a nice light colored complementary color. Either way should look great and the wood trim is what will really make this interior standout.

Yes, the wood trim looks amazing. It's going to be a nightmare recreating it on a 1/25 dash! I'm weighing up the bottom two pictures, the two tone gold is looking good but I think I'm leaning more toward the gold with white seats and door cards. Would the body colour be best or the lighter Champagne Gold you think? Your helping me narrow down my options, Dave:) I do appreciate the input, otherwise I would have just done the interior black as seen on the previous page.

Don't let the wood trim intimidate you.  There are many tutorials here on the forum about this and almost as many different ways to do it. The first Woody Wagon I built scared me half to death since the kits decals were not cooperating with me. I do mine all by hand now. Many use generic decals also. I find it fun and creative now when I do pick-up beds and any wood trim at all. I think this gives a builder a chance to really get creative and show what can be done.

Yes, I've seen a few different ways, including the dash you did on your recent Aerosedan, all good stuff. I have some sticky back wood effect which I have used to good effect on some of my previous builds, I'm getting "creative" with it right now! :D I'll post a picture soon.

That is looking real nice. I really like the ‘60s Pontiacs too.

Thanks, Greg. Yeah, I love Pontiacs. I've built a few of them now and more to come!

After spending way too long trying to decide what colour combo I wanted the interior, I just jumped in and went for the two tone gold. The package tray and seats are Champagne Gold with Solar Gold panels (same as body colour) and the carpet is beige. I was going to go with a black carpet but I think that might have been too dark. I've detailed the centre console using sticky back wood effect. I haven't got around to detailing the door cards or dashboard yet. The dashboard is very well detailed and I'm not sure I can trim the sticky back wood grain clean enough to use that there.

This kit only comes as a custom build and only had the blower option, but I managed to find a Tri-power carb set up in my spares tin along with an intake, I'm a happy chappy now cos it was going to have the blower unit in there!

The console looks great. The material for the wood looks very thin which is good for going around the fine details.

It's sticky back fablon, it's pretty good stuff and comes in all sorts of grain and colours.

Got the dash and body paint finished today. I'm happy with the colour, and even more happy with how the dash turned out. The body has had a couple of coats of lacquer. I'll flat back the orange peel and give it a polish when the lacquer has cured properly, then it's on to foiling.

Trial fit of the interior tub and dash to see how the gold colours contrast with each other, I like it, though I think the carpet looks a bit out of place. No idea what colour I can use there instead, unless something comes to mind I'm fine with it. Just the steering wheel to do and the interior is finished.

The dash board looks great. You mentioned the light colored carpet and it looks correct to me anyway. A thought to give it a little depth if you wanted to make a set of floor mats which would have been common on a car with this light of a color since it would show a lot of foot traffic on the carpet. As for material you could use the thinnest piece of flat plastic or even a rigid piece of paper. Most were made of a rubber material although there were more expensive carpeted mats also. Staying with something that would look like rubber and a slightly darker color than the carpet might give it the most realistic look.  You could just cut a couple of pieces of paper and place them on the floor to see if this is something you would even consider. The body color in the picture and the black vinyl roof go well together. This will require a little bit of chrome foil.

Looks terrific in and out Gareth.

I see you are in  South Wales so I'm pretty sure  that wood grain material isn't available in the U.S. but does anyone know of a similar product in the States?  Building 2  early 70's Cutlass and they have a good bit of wood grain on the dash and side panels.
