Looks excellent Gareth, the interior colour choice and woodwork goes very well with the gold.

I've never tried metallic inside a car, but having seen it on a few builds on here I have something in mind which would suit it well. Some years ago I had a 1973 Datsun 180B that had lots of sparkly blue vinyl inside.

The dash board looks great. You mentioned the light colored carpet and it looks correct to me anyway. A thought to give it a little depth if you wanted to make a set of floor mats which would have been common on a car with this light of a color since it would show a lot of foot traffic on the carpet. As for material you could use the thinnest piece of flat plastic or even a rigid piece of paper. Most were made of a rubber material although there were more expensive carpeted mats also. Staying with something that would look like rubber and a slightly darker color than the carpet might give it the most realistic look.  You could just cut a couple of pieces of paper and place them on the floor to see if this is something you would even consider. The body color in the picture and the black vinyl roof go well together. This will require a little bit of chrome foil.

Thanks for the tip Dave, I didn't think about mats. I'm not keen on those as they hide most of the carpet, but you give me an idea! I made a foot mat for the driver side, the type that's part of the carpet seen in most cars. I've also changed the carpet colour and started on the foiling. Pictures to follow:)

Looks terrific in and out Gareth.

I see you are in  South Wales so I'm pretty sure  that wood grain material isn't available in the U.S. but does anyone know of a similar product in the States?  Building 2  early 70's Cutlass and they have a good bit of wood grain on the dash and side panels.

Thanks, Mike. It should be available everywhere. It's called Fablon, or sticky back worktop covering. The dashboard is just brown paint lightly brushed over a black undercoat.

Your interior and dash look great! Keep up the good work Gareth!

Thanks, Carl. I darkened up the the carpet a bit and now looks even better:) I'll post some pictures soon.

The lacquer on the body has cured properly now. I did a little polishing but the lacquer is pretty tough so can't get the orange peel to disappear completely. I could wet sand it but I'm afraid I'd rub through, so before that happens I've decided it's good enough. I changed the carpet colour to darken it up a bit cos I thought the beige was a little too light. I'm happy with how it looks now and have started to complete the interior. I also added a driver foot mat made from foil I embossed using a ruler and scribe then painted black. Chassis and engine are ready to go in, just some foiling left to do on the body and I can start putting this one together.

I love these 60s behemoths, especially Ponchos. That's a beautiful car and you're making your usual great job of it! Vinyl roof looks great and suits the car so well. I'm just  wondering where you're painting because here in Liverpool it's too cold and damp to do anything. I tried painting something in the garage the other week and the condensation on it was unbelievable! Your paint jobs are stil coming out great.

I haven't really checked to be honest, I doubt there is anywhere local in my area that does it. I did have an aerosol can mixed by someone online a few years back when I made a batch of resin trim for 1-1 cars but I can't remember who did it, I'd imagine they would only have British paint codes anyway. It's no bother, unless I'm doing a 100% accurate build I'm ok with what I can get at the store.

Thanks, Stephen. Yes, I love the big barges of the 60's, GM were at the top of their game at that time. I just paint in my shed if it's not too cold, other times I'm lazy and will just hold the model by a stick and spray out the back door in the kitchen. I just let it dry by the radiator then.

Well you're doing something right mate because your paint jobs are excellent. Unfortunately I live in a flat so I can't employ the "kitchen door" method. I have to say Halfords paint is excellent stuff to work with, very forgiving and a durable finish, though lately I've been buying Hycote  from The Range because it's where we go for our exercise. I believe they're the same product inside. I've had some good finishes from the  too.

ah, cheers. I checked it out, their House of Kolor aerosols looks good.

I've got some of them but they seem kinda thick for the spray cans. They are big cans though compared to duplicolour. Next time I use them I'm going to try the warming the can trick to see if it makes a difference

Your method of applying the spray paint to the roof is exactly right, Gareth, and you could use the rubberised black from Halfords in the same way. I sprayed on many light coats of rubberised black from a greater distance away, and then later I applied some brown acrylic using my airbrush. I found a company down South that mixed up a large aerosol for me, and this was the precise Pontiac colour code........ Mayfair Maize was the yellow colour that I needed. They do list a couple of colours for 1968 Pontiacs, including April Gold and Autumn Bronze.

Make a cheap booth, man. I have one in the shed made of fibre board and an old Vent-Axia fan, just no heater in the shed. If I had room in my kitchen I'd put the booth in there. Hycote is excellent paint, I've used it many times and covers much better than Halfords paints, though both brands are just as good quality, I use Halfords mostly only because it's a walk away from me otherwise I'd use Hycote every time.

Thanks. I'll have to look out for that rubberised paint when I'm there next time, I'll give it a try. What's the prices on a can they do? or is it trade/bulk only? There was a company I used years ago for mixing aerosols but can't remember the name, it was something like Multy-Mix or Poly-Mix? something like that they were called.

This is a link to Autopaints of Brighton, and a mixed to order aerosol is £13.00 plus VAT, so £15.60 https://shop.autopaintsbrighton.co.uk/car-paint-mixed-from-colour-code-prices-from-193-p.asp

They are a good company and delivery was very quick also. The Mayfair Maize colour was absolutely spot on for my Pontiac Parisienne.

Here is a photo of the car that I owned in 1977.

That's pretty good, £15 is not bad if you're looking for a factory colour. Nice Parisienne. I almost bought an American classic in the 90's, it was a '71 Rambler Ambassador, RHD too! but it was rotten as old apple so I left it.
