TransAmMike Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 Does anyone have the Iwata TR-1 or TR-2 Trigger airbrush? I like the idea of the trigger like a spray gun.
mattg Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 (edited) I have a Mr. Hobby PS-290, which (apart from the built in pressure screw) is identical to the Iwata HP-TH. Both are manufactured by Olympos, as most Japanese airbrushes, and spare parts are interchangable. I'm very happy with it, but I think adding the grip is a must. Edited November 22, 2020 by mattg
935k3 Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 (edited) LO Look at this Procon PS-290 Same quality half the price. When you get a trigger type nothing else will be as fun to use. I have this airbrush and absolutely love it. I think the pre-order thing is a website error. I have had mine for 2 years and there are 25 reviews.. Contact them if you are interested. mattg Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 There is also the PS-275 which comes with a 0.3mm needle/nozzle instead of the 0.5mm and it can't do fan patterns. I use the PS-290 for car bodies and other large surface work, for small parts and detail work I prefer my HP-M1.

I got the one for the Tamiya trigger type and it fits perfectly.
mattg Posted November 22, 2020 Posted November 22, 2020 Yes, the grips are interchangeable as well between Mr. Hobby, Iwata and Tamiya.
TransAmMike Posted November 22, 2020 Author Posted November 22, 2020 The PS-275/290 looks great but the Iwata (for $129.00 less 40% at HobbyLobby) is more in my price range.

Does your HL allow discounts on airbrushes? The ones around here have the "your price" stickers on them and the coupon does not apply.
TransAmMike Posted November 22, 2020 Author Posted November 22, 2020 Well Steve, thats a good question. I guess I could try an order online and try to do the discount to see.
TransAmMike Posted November 22, 2020 Author Posted November 22, 2020 Update: It appears you are right Steve. I did an order for the airbrush and put the discount code in and it still showed the $129 price.?
High octane Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 How does the Iwata compare to the GREX airbrush?
John Pol Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Price Nick that is the difference I have both airbrushs and don`t notice any difference

I think the Grex has an extra seal that can be problematic from what I have read on other forums. For the money the Procon /Mister Hobby cannot be beat. The trigger type is addicting in a good way. I have two Iwatas and the PS290 spray and quality are very much the same

TransAmMike Posted November 23, 2020 Author Posted November 23, 2020 Thanks for the input guys, I guess now I need to know if to go with the #5 or #3 Tip. The Procon has my attention for sure.
martinfan5 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 (edited) FWIW, I use the .3/.35 tips WAY more than I do the .5 Edited November 24, 2020 by martinfan5

The NEO is .3 and the GSI Creos Mr. Airbrush Procon Boy PS-290 0.5mm Pistol Trigger Type is .5.
TransAmMike Posted January 2, 2021 Author Posted January 2, 2021 Looking for the grips for the trigger tho!!
935k3 Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 Try this link at spraygunner.com https://spraygunner.com/search.php?page=2§ion=product&search_query=grip
mattg Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 You can use the Iwata K200 grip which is more easily available and fits perfectly. I use it on my PS 290.
