This car was powered by a 5.60l Chrysler LA V8 engine and  the time considered to be by many automobile aficionados a magnificent F...... luxury GT.

It wasn't easy, and the clues didn't help! And to be even more annoying, I had seen it before, but could not remember what it was!

So here is the solution of this weeks quiz. This car is a 1971 - 1975 Monica 560. Between 1972 and 194 about 40 cars were build. It was intend to be the succssor of the Facel Vega HK500 the last french build luxury sedan. The design combines stying ideas from A Maserati Indy/ Lotus Elan, Aston Martin DBS, Jaguar Mk II and the the american Coke Bottle design. It has named after the wife of Jean Tastevin, a graduate engineer of the École centrale de Paris.

I found the answer on an old forum elsewhere that was discussing good looking four-door cars. It seemed like a fitting place to look, and sure enough, after several pages, there it was.

I'm kicking myself now. I'd somewhat convinced myself that it was a Pininfarina design, and spent a lot of time looking at all kinds of European cars powered by US V8s. Swiss ones, Italian ones, Italian-American ones, British ones, but not French. And now I look at the rest of the picture, it's obvious that it's parked in Paris (I worked there for a few years recently) and even more or less where it is.... but I didn't notice, so I didn't type "French four door V8 powered GT car" into Google, which results in Monica at the top of the results list and in the image examples! Doh! Zut Alors!

Very interesting. Never heard of this one, but I was quite curious due to those very pleasing lines. I never would have guessed this as French.

To me it is slightly uncomfortable in it's looks. The bottom line of the glasshouse should be straight and the tail a bit more muscular. Typical French chic!

You should read the fascinating story behind this car, beyond the original idea and the money the French had surprisingly little to do with it. A very International collaboration.

Thanks David, I shall. It's a car I've known of for many years but never seen one in the metal. I can certainly see why Matt saw a Pininfarina connection.
