doorsovdoon Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 ok, I'm new to this truck section of the forum, I mainly hang out in the car WIP and Under Glass. I know absolutely nothing about big rigs but I wanted to do a build for my dad for Christmas as he was a long distance driver for nearly 50 years and even spent some time out in the States driving these monsters. This is my first ever big rig, and trailer build! The trailer is AMT and the truck by Revell. When they arrived in the post and opened up the boxes I almost died seeing all that plastic, Lol. Both kits went together super easy, though the trailer was a bit harder not having numbered sprues and I think I got the side panels all mixed up, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Not knowing a single thing about these I had to do a ton of research looking at pictures and such because I had no idea how to go about detailing them. The kit instructions basically say to paint everything black. Anyway, this will probably be my first and last big rig build, I just don't have the room for kits like this, which is a shame because I love it! Hope you like them and maybe I'll be back with another truck build one day, if I can find somewhere to put it when it's finished!
Force Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Very nice, it's your first truck model and you can for sure be proud of it.
Bills72sj Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Awesome for a 1st time effort. Actually it is pretty dang good regardless.
DRIPTROIT 71 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Very nice and clean build!! I like the paint scheme!! What color yellow is that?
kilrathy10 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 (edited) I agree with Bill... This truck model is outstanding!! It shows what can be done with these simple truck kits... Your paint scheme is amazing... I never would have tried that color with a red frame, but it looks beautiful and really stands out... It looks somewhere between orange and yellow... I think it could go either way, but I love it... Man, I gotta tell you... I'm shocked....That looks so GOOD!!!! Edited December 22, 2020 by kilrathy10
Doug 1061 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 That turned out nice. These Revell snap kits are nice, adding the round headlights is a nice touch.
grodudulle77 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 (edited) Your rig has a nice look !! ?? Edited December 22, 2020 by grodudulle77
doorsovdoon Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 Yes, the rig is basically a snap kit. The round headlights are custom parts from the AMT Buick Electra, I fitted them because I lost one of the rectangle lenses for the originals. The cab colour is Vauxhall Mustard Yellow and Mercedes Cirrus White. Thanks for the positive comments guys, it means a lot:)
Dutzie Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Great job! Definitely work you can be proud of.

I don't have room for these things, but they're sooo cool!

JerseeJerry55 Posted December 26, 2020 Posted December 26, 2020 That’s really nicely done. Great job.

Don't have too high expectations of these kits, I don't want to discourage you but the old AMT kits are more challenging to build and the instructions are not that good...just so you know, they are not unbuildable but a bit harder than the Peterbilt kit you just did. So have patience and work slow, test and dry fit a lot before you add glue, and if you have questions ask them here on this forum and you will for sure get all the help you need.

Yes, I'll be asking for a lot of help when I get around to building them! I'm under no illusion of how different and more complicated they are compared to the Peterbilt, but I'm not discouraged in the least, I'm really looking forward to building them. I'll start a build thread in the new year.

I'm thinking of getting another of those trailers for my Kenworth as I gave this one to my dad. On 1/27/2021 at 12:00 AM, Vince66 said: Really nice set Nice color scheme also Thanks, Vince. I wasn't sure on the mustard yellow at first, having a red frame and all, but surprisingly it turned out to be not a bad combo.
