Rustoleum Clear Gloss Lacquer

Recommended Posts

The Nova body came out pretty nice.  I airbrushed my 56 Ford pickup with enamel and it didn't turn out very well.  I sanded it down and primed it with Rust-Oleum 2X gray primer.  I then airbrushed it with Delta Ceramcoat acrylic black paint and cleared it with the Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Acrylic Lacquer.  It then was wet sanded and polished.

Always a pretty sure bet for black Zip.I'll just reiterate that my experience with black for bodies has been pretty much limited to Model Master Classic black, that flowed out awesome. I still have one bottle left that I kind of cherish, and a partial bottle  I've used for brushing since new.

Recently I went with Tamiya acrylic thinned with DNA and that came out awesome but it is a slightly more midnight or Jet black than the Classic black is. But it looks good on the Model A fenders enough that I won't change it. Barely needed polishing, everything just went off right on that one ( 1/16 Minicraft Model A roadster).

That looks great.. I would have never thought the lacquer could have gone over the craft paint.  Did you do any thing special or just thin the craft paint with windshield washing fluid?

I thinned the Ceramcoat 50/50 with Windex.  I primed the body with Rust-Oleum 2X gray and let it cure for 24 hrs.  I then airbrushed the body with 4 coats outside in the sun and let that cure for 24 hrs.  I sprayed 3 light light coats and two wet coats of the Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear Gloss Acrylic Lacquer.  I let that set for 48 hrs.  Then I wet sanded using 4000, 6000,& 12000 grit sandpaper. Then it was on to the Meguiar's Mirror Glaze fine cutting clearer and finished up with Novus 2.  Long process but seem to work ok for me.
