Got a shed load of 36 rebuilders and parts over the past couple of days of trading.

picked out the nicest of the lot and gave it a go.

I’ve read a couple of threads on the poor fitment so I knew I was in for a challenge, and as per usual I found my model inspiration from the interwebs.

stsrted by the most important thing the stance mock-up.

Then I focused on getting the body together, placed some shims, drug out the bottle of ca glue and got the canopy set in place, once the ca was set I whipped up a fresh batch of sprue goo.

that set for 48 hrs and then I started shaping and filing the seams.

worked on that til I had it to a point I liked, now sitting in primer for a couple of days, we will see how it turned out in the next instalment.

Looking good Bill, looks like you got plenty of spares there body wise !

I've seen you use sprue goo before , is this used as filler ?  Something I've never tried ??

It’s meant to weld the pieces together, I try to use it sparingly so that cleanup is a little faster.

I'm amazed at how well you manipulate that bodywork on an area with quite fine detail - you have my utmost respect!  It is one of the areas that I am most challenged by.  I think I have built every AMT hot rod model in history EXCEPT for the 36 so your thread is going to be very educational.

Cheers

Thank you Alan.
so far all I’ve done is shape will jewellers files and sanding boards.
here is the first primer shot, it will need some filler in some areas but very little.

It is both filler and glue. If you use sprue from the original kit, it should have the same consistency as the rest of the body.

By the way...Nice haul on those kits Bil! That 3-window is looking real nice too.

Nice work getting the top half to fit. First mock up looks really good!

Thank you sir, means a lot coming from you.

The tedious work of filler has taken a little longer than I anticipated, but it’s almost done.

Well after a week of smoothing, filing, filling, sanding, more filling, more sanding...

I think it was smooth enough to shoot a colour coat on.

it’s starting to look very very very close to my vision.
