Although I like where you're going with this, I 100% think you should make those turbos work! :)

Haha! ? sorry to disappoint you guys! NA it is, the time frame does not allow for a creative turbo system. Even though my head was working on it yesterday after I went to bead.

managed to get started on the other one and also made a start on the collector. Seen here together with the C5R original.

Since I am a libra I can’t decide some times.. it does not Make sense to put turbos due to time constraints but still.. what if… so I have been trying to figure where they could go. And it’s not that easy due to the engine bracket and front accessories. I could put them on top of the engine bracket but I am not a fan of that idea… behind creates a problem with piping, routing of could air and sow on..

Started looking on the whole engine bay, and a high rear placement will work, and I really dig this placement. With shortened intake boxes on a high angle it will fit the tall truck body better than the corvette low style intake box:

but again.. I can be wrong… really dig this placement and shortened and lifted intake boxes. Fits the tall truck body better as well in comparison with the corvette style.

What about remote turbos?

..

I was thinking of it. But it does not make a good looking setup. I would have the turbos behind the cab and rout it through the middle back to the engine.. the last setup will look good. I have already started with the build.

looks darn good to me. ? just make everything symmetrical and even. Those intakes for example is just mock-up parts.

When the team converted the corvette to the truck body the wanted to keep the wing to create as much downforce as possible. So they cut 8” out of it and fixated the bed sides to it to make it as discreet as possible. The tailgate was cut to fit the wing. And With minor tweaking the original wing support supports the wing and the bed sides.
And the team decided to move as much weight as possible rearward so the radiator will be moving back which will give more room for the intercoolers. ?

Sorted the length on the difusor as well, still need to patch the top of it.

O, and it won’t have a lid in the back.. now one will see in to it when it flys by in 200.

Trying to determine the ride height to fixate the rear suspension. The body actualy have to go down in the front, probably since I made the steering functional. Still have more than 5,5” ? of clearance in the rear and center.  Almost a SUV… Front is of course lower due to the bumper design.

Fixed the rear suspension that I screwed up when trying to lift it.  Cut a spare box C5R member and slid it underneath the original placement also narrowed it little to clear the brakes and the altered offset on the wheels.

such a perfect wheel and tire combo for that truck

Thanks dude! I also like them  especially with the deep lip in the rear, and it pays the respect to the corvette since they also are BBS of the same era. Thinking if I should leave them chrome or paint the centers.. not Shute. The body will be gun metal Grey Tamiya TS 38 so it will be dark almost black.

I'm gonna do some photo searching when I put the kids to bed. my first thought would be bronze but thats common. maybe a smoked chrome or a chrome lip and painted centers

If the truck is going to have minimal chrome then perhaps gloss black wheels (with or without chrome lip) would look good as well.

True, I would like the grill horizontal bar to be the only chrome piece except for the lips on the wheels.  Black would be cool only down side is that they will barley be visible.. have to think on that.

Very complicated and ambitious project. All that race tech is Way above my pay grade.

Hehe thanks, and yes it’s super ambitious.. was not intended to be but it has actually kept me interested in it. And al the small things I want to make to it and compromise with deadline.

well got some hinges done to night.
made taillight inserts, have made allot of work on the difusor. Tried with he tequnice of CA and baking powder and made a mess.. will look good in the end. Also found the perfect radiator. And squeezed it in between the frame rails.
Also adjusted the wing supports, need some cleaning up.

I realized today that I have 1,5 months to finish this build…. And with my normal amount of bench time I’ve got to be glad to get even half of the fabrication done in that time, and then there is detailing an painting… so the Silverado will be racing for next year.
And the team need to get an other race car prepped for the 2021 cannonball…

So this Silverado C5R Race Truck will be on hold for a while.. and the team start preparing the other race car, that get striped of the castrol sponsors and a wrap to go more discreetly cross country.

I totally agree with Chris, perfect wheel tire combo for this build. Maybe consider a dark smoke job on them? Gives them a dark but still shiny look. I think it would look killer with a gunmetal paint job. Regardless of what you decide, I know it will look fantastic.3AC4E9CC-CFFB-45C3-9706-48A8E85716AE.thumb.jpeg.4ecb5e9ddf3fa5b18c597cdc28411a09.jpeg

Thanks! Cool! Yes that’s true, like “black chrome” what can I use to get that effect?

Hi Anton, I used several light coats of Tamiya “smoke”. Do some tests on a spare set of wheels. From my experience, the key is several light coats, if you try to go thick the results aren’t as good. It is a bit tricky to get it even on the deeper offset, but with your skill, definitely doable. By the way, where did those wheels come from? I didn’t see that in the thread, I really like them.

Cheers, Steve
