David Thibodeau Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 The illusive FXX that no one knows if it exists! Even Ferrari will not acknowledge its existence. Many say it became Schumacher's Metallic Black FXX but there is no concrete evidence. One thing that is evident..... SCALE MOTORSPORT FXX SUPER KIT...... its awesome.... the decals are unlike any I have ever seen or used................... The Superkit states to paint the pieces black and the decal does the rest....... As you can see they are overlays that provide an incredibly realistic weave! In fact if you were going for the flat carbon look they are perfect!! They are very thin.... and the instructions say to only use DECAL SET, Not SOLVENT... and they are right. Apply them, coat them with set and walk away and they do their magic..... And the real magic happens after 2K clear... I wanted blinding gloss!!! Look at these body pieces.... the weave is simply breathtaking...... thats dupont 2k clear freshly applied.... it needs time to shrink back and only minor polishing.....
Raul_Perez Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 WOW!!! That is too cool!! I'll have to admire this one in photograph only because decals HATE me!! Thanks for sharing!! Later,
Hillbilly Deluxe Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Outstanding job David!!!! Can't wait to see more! I am with Raul, decals despise me too!
ScrappyJ Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Man that is looking good, Dave! Can't wait to see it with the rest of the detail set. Doesn't this one also come with machined and photo-etch too?

Doesn't this one also come with machined and photo-etch too? Yes it does Dirk. Turned aluminum oil tanks, Total conversion to make the wheels removable, Brakes, etc.... its nice stuff!!! Thanks !! E St. Kruiser50 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) WOW!! Absolutely Stunning . I love carbon decals and a high gloss clear finish. Beautiful work . Edited December 1, 2008 by Treehugger Dave
Nick F40 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Welp, I was waiting for someone to do it, with the 70 piece template...having fun? Now this is decal heck! This is just one cool ride for that lucky guy that get's to work with racing ones I want to see the real one and pick it up. Your decal work is plain phenominal It looks like the real thing. That paint you use and the clear is outstanding. So shiny and the decals seemed to lay down well, what's your method? I love the weave and the rear section is my favorite.
cruz Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 The clear coat really sets it apart, this is gonna be awesome!!!
CAL Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 that is just freaking amazing and awesome! the decals looked awesome already, but with the clear they just came to life! i don't have the FXX kit, but i do have the regular Enzo, is it possible to do that kit the same way? Dave Probably not there was a lot of small body differences where the decals don't fit, especially around the headlamps.
Brendan Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Awesome job on the carbon fiber. I thought I read somewhere that this car crashed, caught on fire and burned to the ground. It was on an online article somewhere.
MADmodelDOCTOR Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Hey Dave, beautiful, so far. What are you going to do with the chassis ? I was wondering if the Enzo template kit would work on the FXX chassis. Later, Kenny
crispy Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Dave I can already see that this will be a phenomenal build! Absolutely fantastic decal work. As was mentioned earlier your decal and clear are masterpieces. You are a braver man than I at attempting that. I'm excited to see this finished! Chris
Pete J. Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 David - After seeing yours, I can't wait to start on mine. Got my kit about 2 weeks ago and the hub/brake detail is incredible. Great start. Can't wait to see the finished job. Pete
VictorSmalls Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Those are simply the most amazing decals I have seen. Great work.
David Thibodeau Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Thanks guys, here are more pics of the goodies in this superkit from SMS............ Look at all the goodies!! And photoetch!!!! Oh and I did what polishing was needed with 2000 grit and perfect it III rubbing compound from 3M.... Now I need to decide on the stripes or not.......I mean what is totally cool about these decals is how there is a bonding stripe down the middle of the whole car. That makes the weave all the more convincing and the stripe will hide that.... I need votes!! ;D Stripe or no stripe? DaveT
crispy Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Dave, I vote for the stripe as well. It is an FXX after all. Ultimately in the end it's really up to you. How do you want it to look? Chris
ScrappyJ Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Looking good, Dave. I would have to agree with Chris and John with adding the stripe. I thinkt he stripe would look good over the carbon fiber. By the way, is this the/a project for "the Boss" ?
made007 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 that dupont clear didnt damage the decals? what you did?
Zoom Zoom Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Considering the only photo I've seen of the real car showed it in raw c/f without a gloss coat (from a distance it looks flat black), I'd say yours with the gloss coat would look most excellent with the stripe and that would definitely hide the seam.
David Thibodeau Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks for the input guys... I went with my gut and added the stripe...... what a nice contrast I think.....
CAL Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks for the input guys... I went with my gut and added the stripe...... what a nice contrast I think..... oooo yeah, looks absolutely amazing.
