WizPorsche944 Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I have a Fujimi Enthusiast Ferrari Dino I bought off eBay and I’m trying to strip this thick and I mean thick red paint off the car for two days. Any suggestions on what to try ??? So far Castrol super clean brake fluid 91% alcohol
Mark Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Whatever got the roof to that point, I'd go back to that. Two days isn't a lot, especially with three different solutions. Personally, I wouldn't use brake fluid, in my experience it makes the plastic brittle. Too, if you go from one solution to another, I'd make absolutely certain that there is no trace left of Solution #1 on that body before it goes anywhere near Solution #2.

My next step would be to let it soak in the Super Clean for three or four days. I recently stripped a body that took nearly a week in SC, but in the end the paint DID all come off.
yh70 Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 EZ Off oven cleaner ..name brand yellow can...spray on in a well vented area (put in a zip lock bag) let set 8 hrs, under warm water scrub off with old tooth brush , dry re-pete if needed. once all paint is removed (should not take over 24-30 hrs) wash with dish liquid rinse well dry prime & paint...i been using this for over 40 years...this only works on enamel paint.. if its acrylic paint then use the 91% alcohol ..brake fluid never used it never will.. super clean takes to long and never impressed me..EZ Off will also remove most chrome in less than 5 minuets
Bainford Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 When all else fails, I turn to brake fluid. It's always my last resort, but for stubborn paint, it has worked for me. Two days is not long enough for really tough paint. It can take a week or more. Your photo shows that the paint is being stripped, it just needs more time.
espo Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 For myself the only thing I have found best besides Super Clean is Super Clean with a lot of patience . Another thought would be to remove the body every day and rinse under water and scrub with an old tooth brush. I have found that this will remove some of the old paint that the Super Clean is lifting and allow the fluid to work on the remaining paint.
WizPorsche944 Posted April 7, 2021 Author Posted April 7, 2021 (edited) Thanks so much guys, I will give this another try and report back. Edited April 7, 2021 by WizPorsche944
peteski Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 Try Floquil/Testors Easy Lift Off (ELO) or Scalecoat Wash Away Paint Remover. Make sure that any stripping solution is lukewarm (75-85 deg. F). Warmed, it has more potency. But not too hot - that would be bad.
WizPorsche944 Posted April 11, 2021 Author Posted April 11, 2021 Day 3 soaking in Purple Power almost there !!
Deuces ll Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 Put it back in there for another couple of days... I wouldn't worry about Super Clean ruining the plastic....

Deuces ll Posted April 11, 2021 Posted April 11, 2021 Yep! As I mentioned before... An ultrasonic parts cleaner with a heat dial will speed up the process...?
