My oldest daughter is a 3rd generation lowrider both in 1:1 and in model cars. Shes built a few hoppers, a green AMT 64 on gold daytons with rolling axles we cut the top off of so her "lol dolls" can ride in around age 5 or 6. Fast forward to today and she had her eye on an amt 70 fire chief impala. Let's see what she comes up with..

First I broke out the trusty restore paint pens. Virtually no mess easy to handle. She likes this part says it's like coloring a 3d coloring book. I like her perspective.

She said she wanted it purple but with pink too. She opposed to any hard lines or patterns between the two so she asked me to do her daddy's trademark "lowridingmike" or more recently refered to as "og twotone" fade. Its something I like to do alot so if you see it ya sorta know its mine.? she did one side I did the other. Mind you this is all rattle cans. No airbrush over here. Real primitive kitchen table building here. I'll work on it over time get a backdrop take better pics.

After she got the heads intake starter and oil pan in silver and oil filter in white I helped her glue it together without gluing our fingers to anything or causing any catastrophic failure. Shes really heavy on the C.A. it takes alot of patience working with her to say the least. She blasts everything sopping wet with kicker. Kids will be kids God bless em. Little touch up after other assembly it'll be aight.

She wanted it to sit up on 3 wheels so had to make a cylinder out of small steel rod (just a hair smaller then paperclip diameter) and had her put the coils in gloss red with the testors paint pen. Did a little massaging finessing and twisting the trailing arms to give it the look it needed

I would say stay tuned but since it's her car she builds it at her pace so might be done fast might take all year idk. Not doing alot of detail just purple spark plug wires. I'm on the fence on if im gonna bmf the trim. Usually id do a nice mix of gold and ultra bright chrome but since I.was last doing models heavy 10-15 years ive been introduced to molotow and may consider doing the brightwork in that? My only concern is I know she will handle the model a bit showing it off when its first done and dont want the finish ruined or smeared. Can you clear over molotow pen to.lock it in? If not im doing bmf with hella clear locking it in. Thanks for looking!

Very cool thread. You're building way more than models here; there are serious memories being made for that little girl that will outlive you by decades. GOOD WORK, DAD! Now, the models are cool, too. I'm really liking the contrast on that 65/66 body, and your geometric graphics are very appealing. You have a definite style for sure. Sorry I can't offer any advice on the chrome vs. molotow, as I have yet to try the pen. Either can be a little delicate to handle. My gut says chrome foil and plenty of clear. It'll hold up well, and maintain the bright finish, where molotow and other paints like it tend to just turn silver when cleared, at least that has been my take-away from this forum. Can't wait to see this progress!

Modeling is a great hobby, you can enjoy it for a lifetime. Great that you can share it with your daughter.

That's pretty cool! Great bond for sure! Your daughter has a good teacher, and for sure she will be build model cars, but also appreciate the 1:1 more and more. Love the color combo she pichked, and the roof faint job is amazing!

Everything in your thread is super cool. I am envious of you. My own daughter was keen to build models when she was young, which I loved, but her mother ran off with her with her years ago and put an end to that.

The models are looking great. That's some neat masking on the roof graphics. Vibrant colours. Very nice!

Great to see your daughter's creativity and her wanting to follow her father in model building.

Love her color choices on this. Your paint work is super impressive. Cannot wait to see it done!

PS, turn the oil pan around or it will not sit in the frame correctly (Sump and filter to rear)

Therr used to be a time fathers didnt have a fighting chance in family court but modern times have leveled the field for us. I definately encourage you theyre the best thing to ever happen to me! Looking great!

Definitely good to see threads and stories like this.

:)

My daughter tried building with me, but unfortunately lost interest after three of them.

All hope is not lost though, as she is eyeballing the 95 Chev K1500 I have parked right now and is wondering when we're going to work on "her truck."

She turns 14 this summer and will be getting her learner's permit, so I guess I had better get started!
