That being said, to me it looks like you may be moving your spray can too quickly across the body or maybe you are too far away. I have found that either of these problems will cause a sandpaper-like finish. Any of the better painters have any thoughts on these observations? Absolutely! Both of those will also result in a grainy finish. Slow down and spray closer. just be aware that if you’re using a hot lacquer such as Duplicolor, you need to be cognisant that too heavy of an initial coat can craze the plastic without adequate primer to seal it, so it’s a bit of a tight rope act. slusher Posted September 20, 2021 Posted September 20, 2021 If it was mine I would paint it Tamiya semi gloss or get a good smooth grey or white primer and clear it with future. It is not helping your confidence having so many reprints and bad luck with one model. Just trying to help friend .

The one I had in real life wasn't perfect either. LOL

bobthehobbyguy Posted September 26, 2021 Posted September 26, 2021 I would recommend getting some speed shapes for working on your painting technique. They would save having to strip a project. I loojed and they are a couple of dollars. Just a thought.
