So I got the "Patton" finished. These things are a fair bit bigger than a Sherman and are sorta ugly and toady looking. Tried to make this one kind of faded instead of factory fresh like I did the Shermans. All three were painted out of an old tin of Humbrol 155 OD and I ran out of paint before I finished so the mantlet and main gun are a slightly different shade of OD. Kept adding thinner to stretch the paint supply so that's where the faded look came from. Works for me.

This one was a fun build except for the three piece lower hull that didn't fit very well and the too tight tracks that will probably pull the drive sprockets out of alignment eventually. I filled the lower hull seams with some Wite-Out as they aren't very noticeable anyway. Once again it is let down by the cheesy vinyl tracks but that's par for the course for a kit of this vintage. I also drilled out the gun barrel. Didn't want to plaster the Flower Child slogans all over it so just used the "Here come da judge" slogan on the front.

Very nice!

Vinyl tracks aren't so bad...When you get a kit where each track link is separate you will wish for them. :)

We're on the same track!!!I finished that kit recently too. A decent kit for it's age and more simple over the more current kits with tons of parts. GOOD WORK!!

Thanks for the compliments everyone.

Simplicity is the reason I chose it to build.

All these 1950-60's Monogram kits are nice.....easy build. I'd buy a few of these if easy to find....Monogram REO

It's way past time for a reissue of the 1/35 scale Monogram M29C Weasel.  Not a single company has done a new plastic kit of that one, not even the foreign kitmakers who do all sorts of obscure vehicles.  The French company ADV/Azimut did it in resin, along with the original M29 which didn't have the flotation chambers or rudders.  The Monogram kit is simplified, with the wheels and suspension molded in 1 piece.  But we can fix that.

The Weasel, built by Studebaker, was used all over the place in WWII.  The French used them extensively in their Vietnam war.  They were nicknamed "Crabs" and carried every type of weapon from .30 caliber machine guns to big recoilless rifles.  Here are some M29's operated by the French Foreign Legion in Indochina.

You just reminded me, I have one of those bought cheap at a club meeting maybe 20 years ago. I started it and got about halfway through the build before a shinier squirrel showed up. I need to dig it out and kick it through the goalposts.

Come to think of it, I saw a real one of these at an airshow a few years ago and seem to remember taking some detail pics of it. I'll have to dig out all my old 35mm prints and see if I can find them.
