Fantom Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 (edited) Starting with the Revell 359 kit with opening doors. I will be using KFS 1693 Cat engine, Keystone aluminum wheels, and some other aftermarket stuff is on the way. Edited September 14, 2021 by Fantom 1
Fantom Posted September 14, 2021 Author Posted September 14, 2021 Stretched the hood and frame, waiting on some styrene strip and Archer rivets to finish the hood. Grafted the kit transmission to the Cat. Color will be Tamiya metallic green over black with some white stripes! 2
tbill Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Should be a great build. Where did you get the kit? Was thinking of this kit earlier today, and realized I haven’t seen it for sale anywhere.

I got tired of waiting for it to show up in the states.
tbill Posted September 14, 2021 Posted September 14, 2021 Thanks for the info, I didn’t know if I’d missed the release or if it just hadn’t made it over here yet. Still have a few in the stash, but I really like that kit.
vincen47 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 A great start! This will be an awesome build. Nice stretch on the hood.
trick my mixer Posted September 18, 2021 Posted September 18, 2021 I want to keep an eye on this build. In my opinion the Peterbilt 359/379/389 with the extended hood are the nicest truck. I drove truck for 48 years and the last one I drove was a 379 ext. hood What a truck that was. I have to say that kit you are using was the original Black Magic with different box art?..Looking good so far.

I’m really excited about this build because like you, I think the ext hood Pete is most beautiful truck out there. I built the Black Magic kit when it first came out , shows my age, but I didn’t do it justice. This build has been in my head for a long time, and I have high hopes for it. 1
Mopar - D Posted September 19, 2021 Posted September 19, 2021 Nice build looking forward to seeing your progress.
Fantom Posted September 20, 2021 Author Posted September 20, 2021 (edited) I spent 12 hours on the bench this weekend working on this, and although I met my goals , you can hardly tell I did anything. I finished the frame stretch, just behind the sleeper, I added another section bringing the wheelbase to 280 inches total. 300 seem to be to much so I decided on 280. The engine is on its mounts, and radiator is fitted. The hood is done except the rivets. Question to those that have used Archer rivets, do they show under gloss paint? did some work on the chassis as well, front axle is lowered 3.5 inches. Edited September 20, 2021 by Fantom 1
youngtiger1 Posted September 27, 2021 Posted September 27, 2021 Nice start. I have use Archer rivits on 1/32 aircraft models with flat finish and they worked fine. However, I have not tested them on anything that was gloss finish but they should be fine as long as your paint is not laid on heavy.
Fantom Posted September 28, 2021 Author Posted September 28, 2021 (edited) Got some work done on the engine…added some fuel lines etc. Alcad on the cold side of the turbo and oil filters…Floquil Platinum Mist to simulate ceramic on the hot side of the turbo. Edited September 28, 2021 by Fantom
Fantom Posted September 28, 2021 Author Posted September 28, 2021 The interior detail is not the best so I’ll do things differently. Made new walls to start with a clean slate.
gotnitro? Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Really nice looking build so far ! The Cat looks ready to fire up The archer rivets will show up under gloss paint, KJ has used them numerous times on his killer KW builds and they look perfectly to scale after paint
Fantom Posted October 7, 2021 Author Posted October 7, 2021 Small update tonight. Dashboard is almost done…new bunk is done…Made a new pillow from miliput .. …sheet is kitchen wrap glued down with some wrinkles and painted . I made the blanket on a laser printer… tuck and roll rear can wall and headliner.
Fantom Posted October 10, 2021 Author Posted October 10, 2021 Sleeper interior is done…hardwood floor…flocking under the white strip and simulated vinyl above. Looks better in person than in the pics.
Fantom Posted November 6, 2021 Author Posted November 6, 2021 Another small update…the grill and bumper are finished, grill got pe screen and headlights from The R/M 29 Model A, on the bumper I filled the the lights and smoothed it all up. Both are ready for Alclad. I also finished the cab interior.
vincen47 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 I like the hardwood floor. I’ve seen some pretty classy show trucks with hardwood flooring and it looks nice.
gotnitro? Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 really sharp work ! the wood floor is a nice touch
