bobthehobbyguy Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 For those want to develop spraying techniques for either rattle cans or airbrush it might make sense to get some "speed shapes" which are used for testing paint colors on curved surfaces. They are $10 for five. Certainly cheaper than taking a chance with a new kit.
peteski Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 (edited) That is a very good suggestion, but knowing that automotive modelers have notoriously tight pockets, I recall someone suggested using empty plastic soft drink bottles for practicing. Those are free (or 5 cents deposit in some states). That's better than two bucks-a-pop. Granted they don't have those nice curves the speed shapes have, but they are much, much cheaper. Actually there is some variety of sizes, and some do have more complex shape than just round. Edited October 22, 2021 by peteski
Miatatom Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 I've used empty Jif peanut butter containers.
Rick L Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 The white plastic salad bowls, served at informal parties are made of polystyrene. A little heat with hair dryer can put an indent on the bottom.
