A number of years ago I built a 1/24 Notchback Mustang A/Sedan by converting a convertible into a notchback and using GT350R parts. Thanks Phil. Do you have photos or a link to your build, would like to see it.

Don't think I have every seen this particular car - very interesting.

This was one of my favorite race cars at the track near Vancouver in the mid 1960's. I built the model to try and find out what happened to it. Eventually discovered that it had a follow up successful career as a drag car but then got wrecked and disappeared. I once had thoughts of building a full size replica for vintage racing.

Building the drag version might be a nice project.

afx Posted December 7, 2021 Author Posted December 7, 2021 The rules allowed the cars to run without bumpers. On the kit there is a void between the taillight panel and the rear valance where the bumper is installed.Fabricated a filler panel, also removed the molded in parking lights and the license plate from the rear valance. 1
afx Posted December 8, 2021 Author Posted December 8, 2021 Wheel/tire mockup - looks pretty good. Wheel openings will need to be modified. 1

Possibly now the 8" det/lkrs are available, but I think it was just the traction-lok back then. Never heard of any Ford drag cars back then with 8 inch diffs. The nine inch found it's way into most if not all. Of course, the olds, pontiac and 12 bolt corporate diffs were quite stout too for the gm camp; dana 60s and the 8 3/4 for mopar stuff. afx Posted December 10, 2021 Author Posted December 10, 2021 Still work to do to create tire clearance in the fenders and get the wheels tucked in at the front but she is standing on her own. 1
swede70 Posted December 10, 2021 Posted December 10, 2021 Likely examined before, this would be link to the Dave Friedman collection via the Benson Ford Research Center referencing the '66 Sebring 12 Hour race. I haven't reviewed the holdings complete, but many are promised with a few especially clear images of the topic popping up almost immediately... https://www.flickr.com/photos/thehenryford/sets/72157629575463746/with/6985517460 Mike K./Swede70 2
afx Posted December 10, 2021 Author Posted December 10, 2021 (edited) Thanks for the link Mike. The Friedman Collection is a great resource and I already have the Foyt Mustang photos saved - that is the car I have settled on building. Edited December 10, 2021 by afx
afx Posted December 10, 2021 Author Posted December 10, 2021 (edited) Lowered the front stance and clearanced the wheel openings a bit more - sneaking up on it. Edited December 11, 2021 by afx 3

This photo set is awesome . Photo's i have never seen and great reference for the square back mustang and about 10 other cars that i would like to build models of. Model looking good JC, the Foyt car looks like they didn't bother flaring fenders and just cut them up high. Bill
afx Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 Thanks Bill. Dale Wood was the car owner, he was very aggressive radiusing the fenders. The clearance extends into the scallop body line at the front. They did roll the lips slightly. I have radiused my wheel arches as far as I can while retain just a bit of the lip. Haven't yet decided if I want to take them farther which would require creating new flares. 1
afx Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) Race cars didn't run the damper on the steering rack so I cut it free. This will allow me to have posable wheels. Edited December 11, 2021 by afx 1
afx Posted December 11, 2021 Author Posted December 11, 2021 added bolt detail added spindle cup detail to the front swing arms opened up the rear shackles 2
afx Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) fabricated 4-point roll hoop added front fender panel line at the door sill Edited December 12, 2021 by afx 1
cobraman Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 Very nice work ! Going to be a sharp model. 1
afx Posted December 13, 2021 Author Posted December 13, 2021 (edited) I’ve abandoned the idea of fabricating override traction bars (too difficult to accomplish and would be hard to see on the finished model) and will install the stock back seat. You could order a lightweight racing seat for a Group II. I modified the custom seat from the ’66 AMT kit (left) to represent the racing seat. Also modified the stock seat from the ’67 AMT (left) to resemble a ’66 seat. Edited December 14, 2021 by afx 1
